View Full Version : This is just insanity...

Hi there,

I have just narrowly managed to prevent myself from eating my pc. But not sure how long I can hold out, because tonight, the horrors of patch 1.5 hit an all-time low.

The story so far. After initially installing version 1.5 (not while the game was running I hasten to add) I had to un-install and re-install DOW and WA because the new patch gave me constant 'synch errors' during online play. (Which immediately causes the game to crash for all players)

Once I re-installed DOW & WA and patched them up to version 1.5 again a few weeks ago, everything seemed to run ok. I could play online games, but now my friends seem to get 'sych errors' every so often, which once again, prematurely ends the game.

However tonight, things have finally got out of hand. I was playing a game of WA with my friend online, and it came to an abrupt end, giving him the 'synch error' message. I got a victory message, and then the game promptly crashed. Par for the course.

However, upon trying to fire up WA again, I was greeted with the following window.

'Error! Cannot locate Dawn of war.

You have un-installed Dawn of War, which is required to play Winter Assault. Please re-install both Dawn of War and Winter Assault'

I mean, what is going on here? I've just played a game, and now as far as my system is concerned, I have suddenly un-installed DOW!

I'm sorry to sound harsh, but I'm really disgusted at Relic for releasing such a horrendously bug-infested patch for their game. After the extremely long wait, one would have reasonably thought it would at least work! But all it has done is cause many fans of their game hours and hours of frustration and misery.

And I simply don't have hours and hours to waste trying to get this game to work!

A very dissapointed and disillusioned DOW/WA player.

Let's see a warnings.log please.

You can also fire up your registry editor and check the HKLM\Software\THQ\Dawn of War folder and make sure that the install path location matches the path where you actually installed DoW.

I think that with the series of increasing errors you're getting, you may have a virus or Spyware infecting your system.
I use AVG free edition as my virus scanner, & Lavasoft Adaware to remove spyware.

Firefox is a more secure Internet browser than IE too.

Sorry to sound ignorant and everything, but how exactly do I fire up my registry editor to check this? Is there a chance I can get away without having to re-install everything again?

Sounds like a Windows problem. Try going to C:\WINDOWS\ and start regedit.exe from there.

When I dio that it just opens up a folder on my computer with 5 'HKEY_' sub-folders. But nothing else happens...

That's fine. Click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder then select "Software", then "THQ", then "Dawn of War". You should see a bunch of entries, one of them should be called "install path" or something to that effect.
