hello all , i havnt played the game in nearly a year, and i have been trying like mad to patch it so i can play online. the problem is, when i ge tto the sound pack part, the patcher freezes up i sat and waited 30 mins on it and nothing. how long should the patch to 1.10 take, and do you have any suggestions?

Try reinstalling and patching the game online(ie. log into Gamespy).

i have tried all that lol i have downloaded the 1.41 patch 3 times and tried to patch it thru the game, thru the game the firwst tiny patc worked, and when it got to 1.10 if keeps choking on the speech file, this is where its gets stuck in both the 1.10 and 1.41 patches.

The patches can take a long time to install - defragging your harddrive(s) could speed up the process but really all you can do is wait.

i so the patch normally takes longer than 30 minutes on the one file? this seems a bit obsurd. i'll post back in an hour or so

It doesnt normally take that long - your harddrive could be highly fragmented or there could even be a virus scanner interfering with the process. In any case, it should finish eventually (even if it appears to hang and declares itself to be "not responding" just leave it - go watch TV or something).

i believe the problem is solved, my proc was getting a bit too hot and slowed my comp down, i turned it off took the side pannel off and set my desk fan to blow iside, everything is going aok and the patches are moving quickly :) thanks

You'll want to look at a more long term solution to your heat problem though - if running a patch was enough to cause problems you may start to experience crashes when you actually play a game. If its just the processor thats overheating then you could try removing it and reapplying the thermal paste. You may also have to consider buying an extra fan.

My father applied a copper shim to my processor, which conducts the heat away better.
He also used this zinc paste stuff, though there's this silver stuff that's better.
I honestly don't know what they're called though.

I've experienced extremely bad overheating before, despite having 5 fans.
If fans don't work, then you could try a water-cooling system (risky, as I don't know waht they're like).

You should also attempt to remove dust from your computer every 3 months. Dust's a fairly good thermal insulator, which is BAD for your CPU.
