ok i dont think i spelled that right :dunce:
neways, im a tau collector/player and i dont have the templates or rulebook.
i mean, extra dice and terrain are a nice plus, but ill be getting spruce for models i dont even have, nor would i even get around to painting (so much to paint as well as put together >_<).
i could attempt to do some converting, but i heard that the pieces are basically split into 3 as opposed to, like, 10.
so overall, is it worth my $45 USD?

It's $5 cheaper then the rulebook, and gets you a bunch of terrain, templates, dice, and rulers. Get it, and give the minis to a friend or sell them to someone.

If you aren't going to paint, and not put any effort into it...don't get it.
IF you plan on playing and enjoying the hobby, BfM is a great deal/starter set.

I've been in the hobby for around 3 and a half years now, and around two weeks ago, i bought battle for maccrage just for the rulebook to take to tournaments with ease, and some new templates, and the terrain ;)
I don't personally like the models because they are a little lost for detail (but are still great starter mini's!).
Still, even if you do collect tau, why not buy BFM? It has some awesome stuff in it, and the models can give you a 'feel' of what some other armies are like. My answer, definitely buy the box, its great for value.

Hell, I have the 4th edition rule book, and when I get a chance, I'm going to buy the BFM set, as the scenery is cool, a lighter rule book, the models are easy to assemble, and it gives me some 'Nid parts to make my Imperial Guard Steel Warriors Xenos hunters, if I want.
The possibilities are almost endless with this kit*.
I hope you get it, you owe to yourself as a Warhammer 40K player to get it.
Justin.
* Warning, may have been a slight exageration. lol.

Keep an eye on Ebay, someone is always selling either the 'lighter rule book' or 'scenery'.
I would like to buy BFM, but I'm into Eldar, if they sold different race starter sets. it would be far better for all.
eg. Eldar V Tyranids - Battle for Craftworld Iyanden
or Eldar V Chaos Marines - Battle in the Eye of Terror.
Any other ideas?

Space Marines Vs. Imperial Guard - Because We Can Beat Them To A Living Pulp With Our Bolters...
Hmm, sounds good. lol.
Anyway, yes, starter kits with different armies/scenery/missions would be quite cool.

My wife and I started in the hobby with the BFM set. We got better at painting by starting with the mini's in the box, then we sold everything on eBay and got all our money back after hours of enjoyment and a complete introduction to the hobby. We still use bits and pieces of the terrain from the set in our CoD games. It's a good buy and a relatively cheap way to see if you are really into the hobby or not before taking a several hundred dollar leap into an army.
Neither of us play Nids or SM but that shouldn't stop you from getting the set. Anything else is just too big of an investment if you aren't sure how far you want to go with the game.

If all you want are the templates and rulebook, I'd suggest keeping an eye on Ebay. Since you already know the game, you should have a fair idea of what you want.
Alternatively, as has already been suggested, pick up the pack and line up a buyer for the bits you don't want.

I Have BFM and it is awesome so it gives you cheesy models think of it as a discount because:
1.The Rule Book is 60 to 80 dollars
2.A tactical squad of marines is 40 dollars
3.Scenery is 40 dollars
4.the tyranid gaunts are 40 dollars
5.Genestealers are 40$
6.Spore Mines cant be purchased through GW
that adds up to: 240$
all prices are Canadian Dollars
