Developer Relic Entertainment is working on its second expansion pack for its 2004 strategy game Dawn of War. Dark Crusade will add new playable factions, plus new units to the existing factions. This time around, we'll take a look at the flash gitz--a new addition to the brutish ork armies.

Flash Gitz

The violent and brutish orks of the Warhammer 40,000 are so rough, so tough, and so eager to get into some kind of fight that they don't care about trifling things like personal safety, thoroughly testing their new weapon technology, or proper spelling. While civilized, educated factions research giant robot walkers, orks scrape together parts for "meks," and while other factions research next-generation guns, some orks are busy building "kustom shootas."

The flash gitz will essentially be a cross between the faction's "shoota boyz" and "mek bozy" units. While most orks prefer to engage in hand-to-hand, melee combat, there are some who are obsessed with guns--the flash gitz carry some of the heaviest guns they can find into battle.

Combat Abilities

The flash gitz will fill in a major gap in the ork armies, which have, until now, focused on heavy-duty, close-quarters brawling. Orks love a good fight with their fists and their axes, but they've had trouble against enemies with powerful ranged units that can pick them off from a distance.

The flash gitz units can deal tremendous ranged damage, but they themselves wear only very light armor, so these crazed gun nuts can take very little punishment before they're killed off in battle. But they're also very expensive to commission for your armies, so they'll be best used when put behind front lines of tougher ork units, like a squad or two of "slugga boyz" grunts.

I'm worring about this 'very light armor' however :D.

Nothing the health upgrades won't fix. ;) But putting them behind Sluggas? Pfft stupid gamespot, doesnt know in T2 you put them behind Nobz!

Very nice effort with all the write up and links etc

Sorry to say but its old news =/

You mean like 1 day old :P I do not really consider that old news....

Its weird how they look like nobz but seem to be as fragile as sluggaz and shootaz....

They can always have 900 hps like Nobz but be infantry_high rather than infantry_heavy_medium.

They won't be useful if *too* fragile, no matter how much firepower they carry.

they just look like kommandos

Yep... I was personally hoping for them to be more Flash-Gitz like. They need Bling! :p

(No, really. They do. Flash Gitz are the richest Orkz around)

Well they happen to use all their riches on guns and ammo.. so bling they won't have much on, but i could be wrong.

This is from Lexacanum:
Flash Gitz are Orks (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Orks) who are absolutly addicted to guns that make lots of noise and blasts. They will bring all their wealth together to get the best kustomisations. FlashGitz are always trying to get a more shootier, blastier gun to the point where it becomes an obsession. They tend not to care wether or not the gun is effective in combat, aslong as it sounds loud and kicks up alot of dust when it shoots.

Basically Flash Gitz are really really rich Orks that are obsessed with guns. I'd think Bling would be the way to show Orky richness.

Wouldn't it just be to have a really big gun with lots of ammo ? I mean they are obsessed with shooty things, so why would they spend their money on anything else ?

Personally I think Orks need a higher infantry cap than 100 pop...they're so reliant on infantry, and they all get blown away by whirlwinds...

If these guys are as low on toughness as they sound, they won't last a second against basilisks and other artillery. All that money you spent on them would just go 'poof'! I think even though it's kinda un-fluffy from a TT perspective, Flash Gitz should be made as expensive, tough, but powerful ranged units.

I think it would be flavourful to have lategame Ork armies in DoW consist of tons of effective 'ard infantry, and only a few vehicles. I mean, at the moment, just 5 kans takes up all your vehicle pop :P.

Stop trying to logically understand orks please. Especially those of 40k universe.

I see them having the same armour type of Stormboyz. Not to weak but not too strong.

Why in the video do the Flash Gitz look like Ogryns that rolled in green paint? I mean come on they even use the same shooting/mele animations.

BeserkWraithlor

They should have the same armor type as Tacs. They don't look weak at all.

IF the yso obsessed with guns, how come their guns looks less shooty then the MANZ... Im not saying i disslike teh current model. But it would have been hella fun yo see a ork running around with a insainly big gun dragging it behind him hahaha :)

Yea, flashgits should have bigger guns, minigun sized.

Also their guns should be randomized, i mean that's their trade mark that each flash git has a uniquely built Kustom Shoota! Very weird to see them all have the same gun but meh, i guess you can't have it all.

I am just so excited about the ammo drum rotating.

They look awfully like ogryns, with the ammobelts and such.
Also ogryns have that large gun with the drup ammo.
They even use the same tracers (although gitz seem to fire faster)

But but but...
The lootes tank looks soo much like a leman
and the Chaos Pred looks soo much like a Pred

so what, its a new unit, get killed by it

Pithlit

The point is that the two units you mentioned are based on their counterparts while these two are of complete different origin.

On a sidenote in one of the scenes you see a whole squad of sluggas capturing a CP not just one guy as in the videos before.

hmmm

These guys aren't called Ork Ogryns.

Naib

but saying the flash-gitz are the same os the Ogryns is the same as saying the CSM are the same as the SM

sure the base-model is prolly the same (I mean its a waste of time and money to re-build from scratch), but to just say it is an Ogryn is wrong.

TT, they carry an Assault 3 Str 5 Ap 5 gun.

1 Flash Git = 3 Tau Fire Warriors for firepower.

I'm not saying these guys are useless, I'm just saying the extra micro involved in hitting them with a Skyray or Whirlwind sounds totally worth it.

RaiDK

TT, they carry an Assault 3 Str 5 Ap 5 gun.
Where are you getting those stats from?

It's 24" Assault 2 S4 AP6
or
24" Rapid fire S5 AP6
or
24" Rapid fire S4 AP6, AP3 at 12" and AP2 at 6", gets hot.

Sohei_F

Actually, Flash Gitz can have more than one of the ork shoota upgrades, as long as the whole squad gets it. So the best you could have is:
24" Assault 2 S5 AP5, AP3 at 12" AP2 at 6", gets hot

Dude, are you blind? Those orks DID have bling! I mean, am I the only one that saw the gold toofs and gold earrings? Plus some kind of fancy brass on the faceplate that some of them wore... I mean, seriously, do you expect orks to have some lame gold necklaces or something? Get serious...

Zallis

Ork bling is tons and tons of guns and bullets. They have TONS of bling. Look at the size of the gun. Look at all the ammo! That ork has so much damn bling is fucking hillarious.

Aynone else think they walked kinda funny in the video? And will they be monsters in CC like ogryns? Because, aside from showing off that fancy sync kill with the spinning and tossing away of the guardsman, it might give you the wrong idea that they're just green ogryns with a rotating barrel on the gun.
