For starters, you could post your warnings.log AND dxdiag.txt. (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=57900) "It won't play" is also a bit vague. Could you maybe be a little more descriptive? Does the game load, do you get error messages, and so on.

You need to delete the DoW registry entries:

Start > run > type "regedit" > navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\THQ\Dawn of War\ > delete that folder.

You should now be able to reinstall the game.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I had actually downloaded that mod but hadn't installed it yet.

At what point does it say the file does not exist? Are you saying that your computer cannot run regedit?

Try this then: Go to your C:\WINDOWS folder and run regedit.exe from there. Then proceed as described above.

I'm seeing a few instances where people can't play or even install DOW because of Windows registry issues (a dangerous place for casual Windows users to be tinkering around).

Question: Is this by any chance related to DOW's copy protection scheme? Because I am all for a copy protection scheme, and I agree that copy protection schemes utilizing the Windows registry are efficient (unless or until there are secure, safer methods). However, if this is the case, it is a disservice to customers to leave it up to them to fix registry problems caused by copy protection software installed by the game's producer/developer. The uninstallation program SHOULD include uninstallation of registry entries. If this is impossible (and I doubt that it is), the process for making necessary changes should be made clear in the manual.

Proteus: certainly in this case it appears that the issue is with the user's computer - if they cannot run regegedit from start > run then theres a definate problem there. Storm's solution will work for him, however.

now, as far as I am aware the DoW uninstaller does, normally, remove the registry keys (I may check this myself later) - this problem could be caused by people deleting the install folder rather than doing a proper uninstall or by a problem with the uninstaller on their machines (possibly caused by security software protecting the registry - but that is just wild speculation on my part).

Dubdan: see my post about this (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=105491) (the second part). This might be unrelated to your first problem, and easy to fix.

TBS: I can totally see people deleting their directory instead of uninstalling, I bet that's common. But yeah, if you know how to find out whether the installer removes keys, that would be interesting to know. And yeah, I wonder if some virus programs could be obstructing the removal.
