Forgeworld really fucked up the price this time. No one in hell is gonna pay $60 for a ten man squad with a flamer.

I would... If i had the money:(
I agree, forgeworld have fucked up the price, real hard too. What do they think they are selling? Too much cha ching.

The price is not out of line with other similar Forge World products. Check out the Elysian Drop Troops. The ten-man squads are priced £40 and £35. Forge World doesn't cater for the average gamer. They make top notch models for those who have the money and inclination to indulge.
The Death Corps models are fantastic. Like everyone here so far, I won't be getting any, certainly not an army's worth. They do look rather nice, though!

Holy crap... go for Steel legion and give them backpacks.

They do look intense though...
I am so tempted to do an IG army at some stage. I'd definately get a squad of these guys in there. But not a whole army... that'd be quite rediculous

what cfoley said forgeworld isnt trying to sell on a huge scale like GW, compared with the quality of the models it is probally a fair forgeworld price.

FOrgeworld have done it again it seems. I love these, they look so cool. They might also fit into a Steel Legion army too and give it some variety. :)

Excellent models. My favourite Imperial Guard army of all the variations, and I don't even really like IG, which is an added bonus.
Still, makes me laugh to read peoples comments of: "Forge World really fucked up thier prices this time....". I mean it's Forge World for gods sake, what do people really expect? Cfoley hit the nail on head here, because Forge World only creates top quality models for the people with the money and the inclination to purchase them. They aren't for little children who hardly get any pocket money, or real people who have to live on a budget. They're an extravagence, for those who have the cash to burn or those who are inclined to save thier money until they can afford it.
Hell, that's what I'm doing. I really want a couple of the new forge world falcons that will be released come October for my up-coming eldar army. So what am I going to do? Save. They're £8 (roughly $15) more expensive than the GW ones, so I need to watch my pennies until I buy them. Simple stuff.
All of that said, I always thought it was a given to anyone who was in this hobby that it was an expensive one. Only makes sense that specialist models in an already expensive hobby would be even more expensive.

So true, Bizkit. If they had forge world models for DE I'd pick them up for sure.
Same goes for my Boyz.
While there is a limited amount for both these forces, they aren't models that can just be used in any game or taken to Tournaments. That's what I like so much about the IG infantry models they produce, they can be used anywhere, anytime.
They don't require special rules.
I can only imagine how cool it would be to have Orks or DE models designed for special situations. Hell, even just some convesion kits to give to troops to give them that extra feeling.
But as sales of standard Ork and DE models are rather poor, I raelly don't see it happening.

MooFreaky FW does have Ork models HERE (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_ORKS_21.html) If you were talking about troops then your right. But Orks field so many that I was thats a good thing that only their "tanks" are from FW.
Waterbizkit
13th Sep 06, 7:59 AM
I am certain he meant the infantry. I mean ork vehicles aren't much to look at either, in my eyes anyway, but given their slap-shod construction in a fluff sense, I figure ugly vehicles make a decent base for a good conversion.
That said, perhaps we won't be waiting too long, in the grand scheme of things anyway, until we have new ork infantry. I don't mean to pull this thread off-topic, and thus this will be my only mention of this, but let's look at GW current release line up:
We have the eldar coming out October/November. This is fact.
Rumours, fairly strong ones at that, then place Dark Angels as the next release. I refuse to give even rough dates, so as not to fuel rumours, but this is still slated for some point this coming year.
Next, again this is according to fairly strong rumours, he have Orks as the really big release of 2007/2008. I forget when exactly rumours place the release exactly (in terms of months which is as exact as it gets right now), but late '07 early '08 I believe is the current assumption.
Thus for all we know we could be a year, give or take.. though probably more give than take, away from some pretty new orks.
To polish this off-topic tangent off, let me say that given GWs current release format it can be assumed that the codex following the eventual orks release would be yet another Marine Chapter, whether it's Blood Angels or Space Wolves I don't even care to hazard a guess at. Following that could perhaps be another "whole" (as is in not a variant such as Marine Chapters) army codex. Given what will have been updated and what won't have been by this future point in time, my money would be on the Dark Eldar finally getting some love around 2009.
This is all conjecture though, some of it on my part, but most of it based on what I've read elsewhere. Thus don't take it too much to heart.
Sorry for the off-topic rant. Please return to discussing the beautiful miniatures, as you won't here more on this from me... at least not in this thread. :)

While I love these models and think that they would make fantastic display pieces, I'm not convinced of their gaming practicality.
Pewter and plastic are both fairly forgiving in terms of receiving the odd bash but those resin bayonets look very fragile. I'm sure the same can be said of other FW models, but the Kriegs are in the limelight just now.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing... though they look awesome, I'd be worried of how easy they'd be to snap! It's a problem for me because everything I own I inevitably mistreat.

So here we are.
New DKoK models and The Gorgon. (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_NEW_STUFF__11.html)
Honestly. Gorgon is IMO the best FW vehicle so far. It absolutely blew my mind. I would buy it if it wasn't so friggin useless on the table...
The DKoK heavy weapon teams only make me want to buy them for my Daemonhunters more. Great minis. Way to go, Forgeworld!
spacewolflord
19th Sep 06, 9:10 PM
When I first saw the Gorgon I thought they converted a Leman Russ in to a transport, which I thought is a cool idea, then they compaired it to a Bane Blade and a real Leman Russ. That thing is HUGE.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/PDF/gorgon.pdf
Ok so this mover of men can move 50 IG. Thats right 5 men shy of a full troop choice. The thing also has 3 SP with 14 front and 13 side armor. It just MEAN.
Think about putting Mortor teams in there. There is enough room to them to fire with its open top. Or just put Heavy Weapon teams at the front with a second on blocks then 'Drop the Hammer' and unload at the enemies face. Go FW! I am NOT buy this behemoth any time soon but it is sweet.

I don't know if I'll buy a whole army, but I'm at least getting a platoon of these guys for Inducted Guard or even just as a part of my IG army that I'm pulling together... I really like the character of the heavy weapons teams that they just released.
Gru6y
22nd Sep 06, 10:25 AM
Yeah. The heavy stubber looks like an AA gun :P
Nobody is going to use it anyway, but the mini is very cool. So is the slightly more usable mortar team. Love'em all.
Question to Guard players. How much would it cost to build an entire army (lets say 1500 pts) out of DKoK? Asume you're using to Lemmies and a forge world Hell Hound. I'd do the maths myself, but don't have any idea what is a typical IG army made of.
Exetus
22nd Sep 06, 12:04 PM
Well... I'd have more armor than you are suggesting... as many as three Leman Russ tanks, one being a Demolisher or other heavier version. I'd use two Hellhounds or one and a few Sentinels.
And then have the HQ Squad
Plus two infantry platoons with a command squad and 3 infantry squads.
Figure three autocannons and three lascannons...
And assuming about 1500pts
So we're looking at
1x Hellhound (FW) - $73
2x Leman Russ battle tanks - $90-100
1x Leman Russ Demolisher or Executioner (FW) - $51
2x Sentinel (hell, we could go with FW for these too) - $60
9x Infantry Squads - $548
1x Lascannon Squad - $73
1x Autocannon Squad - $73
That brings our tally to a whopping total of:
$978 plus tax... so if we figure in 6%
$1037 for your Death Korps of Krieg army

Personally I go with The Steel Legion then DKoK since they look a lot a like and they are cheaper. http://uk.games-workshop.com/imperialguard/steellegion/
Add to the fact that I run Genaderies means they save me even more money. Which as all gamers know that there never seems to be enough for everything that you 'need'. Believe me if you get in the hole do because of plastic army men you learn to save too.

This thing is monstrous! It can transport up to 50 personnel, or so the experimental rules say.
Fresh from the forges is the latest in our range of super-heavy vehicles The Gorgon Armoured Assault Transport. This massive vehicle is used by the Imperial Guard (and favoured particularly by the Death Korps) for heavy assaults, and it is designed for breaching fortified lines and entrenchments, literally smashing its way through opposing defences to unleash its cargo of troops into the heart of the enemy position.
Have I mentioned the size of the thing? The Gorgon is simply huge, with a transport capacity of no fewer than 50 (yes 50!) infantry models, more than enough for an entire Imperial Guard platoon, and with heavy armour and structure points it can be relied on to weather a storm of fire as it advances. We will be releasing two variants of the Gorgon, the first shown here is equipped with sponsons mounting four multi-option anti-personal heavy weapons to defend the Gorgon from enemy infantry assault while the second variant shown here is equipped instead with mortars to bombard enemy trenches in preparation for attack. In addition both variants of this highly detailed kit mount two twin-linked heavy stubbers in rear turrets, as well as a two-section movable assault ramp to the front and a movable access ramp to the rear. The Gorgon also features a fully detailed interior and three-man crew (a Death Korps driver and two gunner models.) Full rules for the Gorgon will feature in a forthcoming Imperial Armour book, but we should have some experimental rules up on the web site soon. We hope to have a limited stock of Gorgons available for Games Day UK, and we are taking pre-orders now for a release commencing the 9th of October.
Looks kind of ungainly, but sexy all the same.
Here is the link to the page, the gorgon is down a bit, right after the Death Korps heavy stubber team 3.
EDIT: Heh heh, I forgot the link... and forgeworld's broken right now. Oops.
What think?

Put in a full platoon of guardsmen armed with plasma guns and transport them to rapid fire range. Statistically you should kill 8 marines (if the transport dosen´t get blown to pieces before that)... and those 2 remaining marines and their palls will be very angry.
Other than that, the model is nice.
I might actually by it for my ig army, just the idea of transporting the guardsmen to their deaths is enough. :)

The Death Riders have sealed it... I'm going to have a Death Korps themed IG army. I won't be able to buy/assemble it till I get back stateside in March, but I'm going to put together at least a command squad, 2x 2squad platoons and the Death Riders when they get out... The Death Korps should also allow me to make some good designs and turret art for my tanks which, except for the Executioner or Demolisher, I already have.
As for the rifle Gru6y, I'm already in the process of purchasing an L96 from Accuracy International (.338 lapua super mag) for a little under 4k... so I can readily sympathize ;P.

Those riders are just the best models they are making for them. I don't really care for the mounts but different is good.
What is the differance between the normal troopers and the Genadiers.
Exetus why don't you use the genadiers and save your self some money on the command squads for the troops?
Exetus
25th Sep 06, 8:17 AM
I was looking at that. When I initially posted, the Grenadiers weren't yet available. I've already decided that, at the very least, a box of grenadiers and all the bitz that I have will suffice for the two command squads. I haven't made any concrete decisions at this time, but that's how I'm leaning. I also am without my codex, which will be instrumental in deciding exactly how I want to either a) expand my current selection or b) begin another army, with DKoK as the primary troops.
I still have to decide, but I have a good 5-6 more months to make up my mind =P

The bad side is that I was already "making" (1 squad) a death korps army before these models came out. And they make my conversions look like absolute crap (and i thought they were rather good to be honest)
Oh well...let's hope EBAY sells them cheaper...
