View Full Version : Idea: Dawn of War 2 - Epic Scale

Simply put, to include flyers, superheavies, etc. make DoW2 use an Epic scale rather than a Warhammer scale.

For everyone not familiar with the TT game, Epic is basically 40k on a larger scale. Tanks that dominated the field previously are now dwarfed by larger and more powerful tanks. I'm fairly sure Baneblades come in squads... 'nuff said. You also get Titans... Remember that thing with the uber powerful weapon from the WA campaign? That. Fully operational.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

THAT sort of scale. Think Supreme Commander type scale.

What do you think?

Edit: Titans are cool

I'd say no, but make the scale slightly smaller so we can use scout titans.

So do you want the Titans to be the same size as Dread -Noughts.

No no no, all the other units would be also scaled down. The same scale Epic 40k uses.

Lol. Those trees in the titan pic must be, well...

Final Liberation was fun and a remake would be good, but I prefer DOW with it's up close and personal tactical combat.

those are some big ass trees!!!!

I do like the idea of epic, all the HUGE killing machines of the 41st millenium. amazing. but with such huge machines with such powerful weapons, squads become insignificant, distances are increased, so all the squad based warfare is out the window and so is close combat.

In the thread where aircraft are discussed (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=110735)I think some of those ideas would work better. namely, trying to keep it squad oriented and small scale skirmishes but on a much larger map requiring greater use of transports, including air units.

I think EPIC scale would change the game play considerably.

EDIT:

yeah, I'm decided. in EPIC scale, what use would heroes be? scouts? psykers? A lot of the variety and character will be lost and replaced with big ass machines. I don't like the idea.

An EPIC game would be nice, but I want a sequel/evolution of DOW. the EPIC game would have to come as a seperate project.

Dawn of War 2 should stick to what made the original so great and expand upon it! The wicked cool close combat animations, awesome shooty effects of the medium to small sized skirmishes that capture the essence of the WH40k universe up close and personal.

Although an epic type game would be cool (titans ftw and space battles?), just not DoW 2!

I voted no, but I'd like to see an epic game *aswell* as DOW2, just not instead.

Titans are indeed cool.

I'm gonna have to say no. I like the current scale, where infantry matter and you don't need to use exponents when expressing a useful quantity of them. This is one of the things that makes infantry in other games (like Empire at War) pointless: you need to have rediculous numbers of troops to make infantry worthwhile. By the end of the game, the only infantry I build are ones that can kill tanks, and even that's questionable. I like the idea of bringing Titans in, but if there's no way to do it without borking the current sense of scale in the game, then forget it.

Take note Relic: Epic 40k at some point in the future :D

I'm hanging to see a Titan Chainfist slice a Baneblade in half ;)

I'd love to see an Epic game with lots of little marines and huge titans. This is something I've been hoping for for a very long time, and it would be great if Relic would consider making such a game. Back in my TT days, I played a lot of Epic, but never really regular 40K.

However, I think that it wil be best suited for a different game, and that DoW is kept at it's current scale, or perhaps even lower the number of units a bit.

It is a good idea for a modification (mod) but no game...

I am 100% with this opinion.

No way, I like my DoW, just the way it is ..... .......raw, close and brutal ;)

If they used the supreme commander engine you could have the best of both worlds ....able to zoom out to see titans blasting each other, or zoom in to see the bloody and gruesome infantry combat at that same old fantastic detail level.

Hmm...I probably agree that I'd like to see both though.

No, I prefer Warhammer 40k in front of Epic.

Skirmish formations in cityfight wtfpwns largescale block formation ranks Warhammer Fantasy style *yuck*

An Epic game could be very cool, even, dare I say, awsome. But I'm looking forward to the day when I can play DoW 2 and I want it to be DoW not something on an entirely diffrent scale. Alot of people have brought up the idea of integrating Battlefleet Gothic space combat with DoW. Now Battlefleet Gothic meshed with 40k Epic in a turn based, persistent campaign with real-time resolution to fight for the WH40k galaxy, that sounds pretty hot, but as it's own franchise not DoW.

No, Stay with DoW and expand it, if they whant titans add the warhounds, nothing more.

Rather not seem the game based on epic scale. But possibly an expansion or game mode for it. Larger maps to support the epic.

Here is a good saying :

"Don't fix what isn't broken" - Why change DoW into a Tank and Mech massing game?

Titans are cool yes, but their "power" wouldn't seem near as amazing or deadly were they only going up against simple tanks (and larger tanks...).

So no, DoW 2 should be what DoW is.

Nah, maybe a mod though, cuz I really wanna see the ork Gargants in action
crude and deadly

Let DoW2 be DoW2 not TW DoW Epic

DoW is all about sqad based tactics and micromanagement...the nitty and gritty of infantry and mechanized combat. Managing massive war machines is a fun idea, but a little too Mechwarrior-y.

Make a mod for it though ;)

I say make it a small part epic. Just so that air units can be useful.

As vastly interesting as you and others may think this to be, we have a suggestion box for this sort of thing. The ammount of discussion possible from this suggestion is very limited and as such does not merit a thread to discuss it at the present time. If and when DOW2 is announced this may change, but until such a time, place it within the suggestion box.
