That's great stuff! Reminds me of all those times I built big lego/domino cause and effect machines when I was a kid.

My guess is that parts of it are real, but others aren't - there's some interactive "tweaking" by computers, coupled with some triggering strings that are pulled at the right times and then the strings are edited out. The bit about the tires butting each other and rolling UP the ramp was a bit too far away from real physics to be believable.

They were precisely weighted - put all the weight in the top and have it perfectly balanced, so when it gets bumped the weight will push it up hill for a sec.

It's real - only one second of CGI in the whole thing (where the exhaust is rolling across the floor - apparently, their studio wasn't big enough to film all of that at once). Took 606 takes to get it right!
