www.port-forward.com first of all disable any software firewalls on your pc then go to that website and set up port forwarding for your router (it would have helped if you'd have told us what you were running and what router you have)

You pointed it at the DoW folder?

i did the automatic scan which found nothing and then i tried directing it to searcg the THQ folder...still no joy
gamespy as in gamespy arcade as in the external application that then launches DoW for a given server selected doesn't support DoW/WA

hmm that must be it, im completely stumped with this game wont run online, its been install without firewalls on, its ran witjout firewalls on but it just wont do online play because its convinced that theirs a firewall on when zonealarm, avg, norton and windows is all turned off. would the universitys internet make any differnece? i dont use a modem or a router, its just a ethernet cable from the laptop into the socket in the wall, it runs all my other games perfectly well...why not DOW?

na i would say it has to do with your uni network but then again other games run fine have you done the mutliplayer networktest
you could try uninstalling firewalls and antivirus programes

whats the multiplayer network test? i could uninstall all my programs, but why waste a 800 quid machine on the base fact of playing a 20 quid game...virus's my friend

it will help trouble shot for one zone alarm needs to off/not loaded for wa to work
as for the networktest you need to install java
then go here http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=63593
for one you only need one antivirus back by the occasional online scan (if any unless you watch alot of porn or vist dogey sites or dont check files you download via a online scan) two norton sucks the badest and is worse than a virus. however antispyware is a must
its unlikely(not impossable) a virus will destroy your machine. back up your important data have a good knbowledge of ur running processes.
even so for a short time you uninstall them all COMPLETLY(some might not uninstall the best) you will be fine

spyware only on to scan then off. that is a bad result
but you need to do the test in the way you will play the game turn everything off uninstall norton and try again
basicly if i were you i would uninsatll all firewalls antivirus disable windows firewall and run the check (also i would forward ports if i were using a rj45modem/router but you are not are you just using the uni network)

turn of the firewall, antivirus(or uninstall) run the network test!!!!!
then you will see if you uni connection is blocking ports?
can you use a torrent client on your uni connection?
it seems to me like your connection, can you take your comp somewhere else and try it through a modem?
just try the network test and see if your ports are blocked most games need ports to be open to play online?
after you turnoff uninstall your antivirus firewall software and then run the net test if you still get a bad result
try this
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=42622
i think it is most likley the connection you are on. talk to the network admin/IT guy at your hall/uni he might be able to help.
try someone else's comp and run the network test mostlikley you are behind a firewall at your hall/uni
