Every time i try to host a game it doesnt appear on the online menu and after a few minutes it closes down an d i get an error message saying
"Could not talk to the game lising server. Your firewall/router may be blocking communication with the server".
My windows firewall is always off and i've tried lowering my Norton firewall level to low. I dont have a router so i't cant be anything to do with ports. I don't get it, i was able to host games in DoW classic but i have never been able to host a WA game.
Can anyone help me out?
BTW i only know a little about computers so if i've got anything stupidly wrong sry:dunce:

unistall norton its a more like a virus than a solution!!!!!!
use sygate personal firewall its free and works well
also turn off your firewall to play if you love norton(which you shouldnt its crap)
make a rule to allow winter assault!

hmmmm i dont think i'll be uninstalling norton any time soon since i think its pretty good though it can be awkward. It has removed many virus threats and blocked manys a hacker over the past 5 years or so but thanks for the advice anyway. Will try disabling norton completly and see if that works to see if it is the problem.
o and i have allowed all WA exe files

sygate firewall is tops much better than norton. and its free
norton products use to much mem cpu and use hdd to much.
they dont uninstall correctly and have a tendancy to f***up your internet connection
if you love norton so much:hug: just uninstall it to trouble shoot. bet thats your problem also make sure windows firewall is disabled
when you say you dont have a router what type of modem do you have some modems have router functionality
like my crap dlink-dsl302g
also try the network tester http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=63593
you will need java installed (once you get a good result and are done with it uninstall java if you dont use it, lots of java virus out there you know)

If you are on a router then you will have to manually open the port to your computer along with DMZ. These settings can be found in your router login
192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1
Try adding one of them to the browser address bar. You will be located to login. Make sure you have the login info.

My modem it turns out is BT voyager(sry if this is not what you meant) and i tried the network tester and it said "pass" after every port so everything must be ok there. So if its not my router or my firewall is there anything else it could be?

just try it with firewall/av uninstalled it might work if not reinstall
since you got a good result i doubt its your modem but waht type of voyager is it eg.1500, 220v etc
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
also have you scaned for virus, trojans, spyware etc
try a online scan from someone and run adawareSE
