Odd connection problem

I'll be quick. I have the original DoW. My friend has Dow Gold. We cannot seem to host a game that the other can join - the game tells us we have a connection or firewall problem. However, HE can join other games, and -I- can join other games - we just can't join -each other's- games.

Any ideas? Do we both have to have Gold? (DoW+WA?)?
