Been out a while, but still worth a thread me thinks.

Did not seem as scary as the original Fear demo. Not to say there is no "oh fuck" moments of course that have you shooting at shadows.

Action is kick arse as ever, not original but fun action. Blasting a room to pieces with a shotgun in slow mo, blood and dust been kicked up everywhere with the odd limb flying about never gets old. Creating your own blood bath in this game is oddly interesting in how many ways you can do it.

Best part of the demo is the "bloody" room, wasted a round of ammunition in the end blasting the whole place apart at shadows.

What can I say I am Irish.

Anyhoo what say the rest of you.

Ran out of ammo on the invisible shadow demon things at the end of the demo. Had to use fists to finish the level. It was decent, but not as long as the original FEAR demo.

I just finished F.E.A.R a couple of days ago. It was ok, but I didn't find it nearly as good as some reviews suggested. The whole supernatural thing seemed to be a bit of a pointless distraction and the campaign was very linear & predictable.

For two games of a similar ilk that came out at the same time, Prey takes the gong for me over F.E.A.R.... by a long shot. If you're tossing up between the two, go for Prey.. you won't regret it.

Personally thought prey was rather dull once you got over the fact it had some funky gravity and portals. Fears slow-mo, pant browning moments and general mayhem was something I could keep playing even if the level design did get a bit samey during the middle bit.

And the enemies in fear were a hell of a lot more fun to fight against that the idiot enemies you see in prey. Taking someones head clean off in slow motion while they vault through a smashed window never gets boring.

Reki, I'd suggest the exact opposite. Prey did nothing for me, despite all the hyped up stuff like portals and wall-walking. FEAR had me scared shitless.
Although I will admit that it became a little stupid towards the end, those hovering laser robots were a bit too much.

Horses for courses, I guess. I didn't find FEAR scary at all. The ghost stuff all seemed so.... cliched. I quite like puzzles in games as well - I can't recall a single puzzle/hidden area/easter egg in FEAR. It was just all kinda continuous enemy killin.

I dislike the way they chose to continue the story greatly. But apart from that, Extraction Point seems okayish.

The original FEAR was grand though, especially when
trying to comprehend the story and various character relations. (Though I am still mad at Fetel for eating the girl.)

He ate his aunt.

Think about that.

FEAR was great in the OH CRAP! look over my shoulder kind of thing. I replayed the game and took some differnet paths and ALMA came out at me in places different than I remember.

Wait he ate her? Jesus. When did that happen?

Playing FEAR at night was downright scary.

Near the end, right before you do him in.

I'm going for F.E.A.R. although I didn't shit my pants and I didn't stop playing due to scariness it still had some "AH CRAP" moments, and offcourse thoseslowmo shotgun kills with guys flying through windows.
Prey was nice to but then again just...nice. the action was kinf off boring compared to F.E.A.R. no leaning no slowmo less physics in fire fights(ie not enough clutter to blast). The portals and grav was kinda cool but I still think they could have done more with that apart from a few easy to solve puzzles, why no level where you had to use prtals and grav to defeat an end boss or something? I found it all pretty straight forward.

With the stories both are almost equal altyhough I still find F.E.A.R get's the upper hand, with F.E.A.R. you are busy the whole time with finding how it has come to be and why and I'll never forget the last sentence. The clone's testing has been a complete success(or something like that, they at least imply that you are a close too, some sort of son of alma...
The Prey story is based around the "save the chick" storyline, although they added some thing with cherokee indians it's still the same storyline and pretty straightforward too, but I liked the part about the Sphere.

F.E.A.R. : 9
Prey: 7.5

Azrael, your spoiler:
The Player is Almas first child. Fetel is her second.

Prey would have been much better if they hadn't cut all of the indian stuff, saving it for a sequel. Originally they wanted to give the player 7 different powers.

FEAR wasn't the most terrifying game I've ever played, but it was definitely scary and had its fair share of great moments.

I specifically remember one moment, in the water treatment plant. You're walking on top of a platform towards a ladder to get down to the floor below. Grab the ladder, and as the camera does its 180º swing, there's Alma standing RIGHT THERE. I fell backwards out of my chair recoiling from that.

Heh, I actually avoided that scene, because I fell down the platform :(

I knew it'd happen aswell and jumped down on purpose. I have an intense dislike for ladders in FEAR (they take control away from the player, and that makes them excellent shock tools), so I jumped whenever possible.

The ladder was good, but that hallway with the hanging lights is the best scene in that level.

The lights all move and sway, then the door infront of you slams shut and you turn around adn guess who at the end comeing your way! Ghost girl with an attitude.

:rip:

I played my friend's Prey on his 360, and while it was intersting I could tell it came from Doom and Quake. The engine looked samey to me, and the game play was really blah. Although the sprit walking and such was fun at times.
