Dear Relic/THQ Developers, Dear DoW Community,

a few days ago my fellow lodger and i buyed DC. It was very frustrating to see that internet games with more than one of us were not possible. We dont see any players in the game rooms. Chatting does not work. None of us can create a game (Creating Games works, but after the load screen a error message appears).
All that worked perfectly with Winter Assault and no port forwarding.

Anyone out there who has the same problems?
As it works with WinterAssault i suspect that its possible to get DC working behind Masq NAT Boxes too, for more than just one Player.
Please fix that soon! Or else you can buy 3 more DC at ebay.

Port Forwarding wouldn't help anyway since it seems that the DoW Port is Hardcoded to 6112 UDP and we are 3 People behind NAT. A Game Option for Setting the Port manually would do the trick. Then we could add custom Port Forwardings for each PC(IP).

A disapointed Customer

Yeah, you're not the only one with the problem.

No help so far.

Well, WA worked so far.

Why is it so hard for the Game Developers to program am proper Online Game that works mit masquerading NAT? Why has the Game Port to be hard coded?

If i could manually specify the Port i would be able to configure a port forward for every PC in my LAN. Then a Master Server at Relic which saves the IP and Port for every Client registered Client and ALL Client could talk to each other (Bittorrent does so and some other p2p networks too).
But NO, they simple set up their Online Gaming with Gamespy which uses about 9 Ports you have to forward. That are 9 Holes in your Firewall. :-(

I believe that the problem is a limitation with GameSpy not being able to traverse NAT's. Also, stated in another thread by Tranj a few months back, 2 players who are behind the same NAT aren't allowed in one game to prevent cheating (manipulating the network connection with other players to get an advantage).

Seriously, do you belive that? What is the technical background behind this statement? Can someone explain that to me?
It would be great if you could find that threat. I searched, all if found was a thread started by Marauder84: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=112055
CoH related, but nice to read. Marauder84 knows what he is talking about. Same problem here. Relic doesn't support Gamers behind NAT Routers? Hmm, sounds to me like a big excuse. It's to easy to say: "If you would like to play the game, get yourself a modem and connect directly, we dont have the time (MONEY!) to program a good netcode."
But the number of home routers is growing. If they don't start to support it NOW they will lose customers. Many customers.

Same problem here in Italy where entire cities are behind the same NAT.

Why don't we (DC users behind NAT) ask relic a fix in the next patch (i read elsewhere that Buggo said next patch will be for connection issues) like to make the netcode check only the CD-KEY instead of the IP? ...this should solve the problem imho.

Well, i'm with it. I hope this thread has that effect. We could also write an E-Mail. But i belive Relic is already aware of that Problem. But i don't know if they are motivated to fix it.
