Wouldn't it be great if two separate MOD teams got together and each did one race for a MOD.

They could construct a point system and each unit class and weapon class would have certain number of points.

The only information common to both MOD teams would be the point system, the unit and weapon class points and The Event. The Event is the reason why the go to war. However in this type of MOD each race puts their own spin on The Event so that the other race is the bad guy.

For unit classes the points would go toward attributes like speed, armour, manoeuvrability, number of hard-points, weapon class of hard-points, power-plant, etc.

For weapon classes the points would go toward attributes like range, firing arc, tracking, recharge-rate (rate of fire) / power demand, damage, armour, etc.

The unit’s power plant points would be deducted by a total of the armour, speed and manoeuvrability of the unit. Also the number of weapons and their power demand. The resulting difference must be non-negative. This would relate the power plant points to the power requirements of the unit and its weapons.

The armour could act like a damage absorber by absorbing damage less than its points. Any weapon with higher damage points than the target’s armour points will do damage equal to the difference in weapon damage and the target’s armour.

Each race will have a few attribute multipliers that the other race is unaware of. They would be the race’s “advantage”. These will be limited to say 2 unit attributes and 2 weapon attributes. These must be randomly assigned by an independent party to the two races. So after a race allocates their base points to the attributes they then apply the multiplier to their “advantage” attributes. The multiplier is constant and equal for both races.

Each team would test there race against the HW2 races thereby allowing the two races to first meet on the battle field after being complied into one MOD by an independent party.

I think this would lead to two “naturally” balanced races brought about from the ingenuity of race creators. Also since each team is only working on one race when in the past they worked on two, the detail and story of each race could be the richest we have seen since HW.

What do you think?

Cool. When are you starting this mod? :D

Ohh ... Me?

Well ... ahh ... you see ... it's like this ... I don't anything thing about MOD-ing.

This is just a "discussion" thread to see if the idea is feasible. All the experienced MOD-type-people where supposed to come here and say ...

"My ... how clever."
or
"Cool man ... lets do it"

Or some other words to that effect. Then they were to busy themselves with the details and in a few months time ... 'Presto'!!! ... the best MOD yet.

Well ... that is what I wanted to happen.

Cool. When are you starting? :)

No offense, Ride, but there are more "idea" people out there than you can shake a stick at (in my gramma's words, bless her heart). I'm guessing anyone who has enough chutzpah to work on a mod has some idea of what they're going to do with it, and will want to do those themselves. It's the ones buckling down and doing the work that rule the day.

Perhaps you’re right. Still … I know nothing of MOD-ing. I am a math major not comp. sci. I could do up the point system but that is where my usefulness currently ends. I did muck about in C and C++ long ago but all this graphics stuff – modeling and texturing – I mean I still can’t get a custom spray in Counter-Strike.

You sound like a good man for the MOD-ing job :mod: . My Big-Momma used to say “Get the right people to do what they are best at.” She also always said “Put ‘em down boy!! :Slap: They have to cool first.” :cook: Man I miss those pies.

This could turn into a modding philosophy thread. :)

One modding newbie with gumption is worth ten modding vets who are too lazy to get off the sofa.

I've interacted with both, and the people willing to work and learn will always be more productive. The worst modmembers are the promising people with some skillz that start an audacious modification and then get bored, drift away, and disappear a couple weeks later. Some do leave for valid reasons, but others simply aren't good at finishing what they start (I'm one of 'em).

That's why I'm hoping there will be some "quick mods" for HW2. :)

[edit - this is not to say that all skilled people are necessarily lazy - far from it, from what I've seen in the gallery forum. But usually there will be people that are less help than they initially indicate, for various reasons]

hey ride, mind if we borrow your idea for our mod? if it works it would be very helpfyll, as one race has multiple armour levels, and that sort of armour-prrogramming would lead to a more "realistic" armour effect.

i.e give it to capital ships, so the fighter fire does nothing untill the armour has "saturated" with enemy fire, it can't absorb anything else, and then the fighter does damage.

like a tank, bullets ( of lower calliber) do little damage..but another tank shell or a HEAT round wil definitly do damage.

so... mind if we use the ide if it's doable? :)

[edit] ride; as HW2 will be "extreemly modable" as we have heard from several Relic staff members, programming should be a significant part of it. so don't despair ;)

Sure man. Knock yourself out. Like I said I don't know haw to mod and was hoping that someone out there would like the idea and run with it.

Good Luck

thanks :) thought of a way to turn this "armour" idea into shields :D no not cata shields, more like the big sphereical shields, sort of like the "Gua'uld pyramid destroyer's" shields effects in Satargate. hope not like trekkie shileds though
*hopes 4 da best* ;)

er, ammon ra, it's spelt "Goa'uld", and "Stargate"(if you are referring to the series, it's title is "Stargate SG1").
and the pyramid ships in 1x21("in the serpent's grasp") and 2x01(don't remember it's title, it's the part 2 of the serpent's grasp), is actually Goa'uld Motherships, not pyramid destroyers. :D

CCTSMaster--i know, i know, i'm a geek, but so what?

Edit: when speaking of shields, i find the Farscape ones to be the best, esp. when they're incomplete. see farscape episode 7, season 1("PK tech girl").

Edit 2: Also, since i don't know of any pyramid destroyers, the only thing that comes to mind is a ship that destroy Goa'uld pyramids. one such ship could be "Thor's Chatriot"(in the episode of the same name, ie. episode 9 or 10, season 2), or presumably any other Asgard ship.

ops,, sorry about the "stargate" mistake, and i had no idea of the spelling as i watch SG1 in german :p

erm.. yeah, the motherships..whatever, im not a geek :p :frog:
no, not really talking about the asguard ships.
sorry about mis-conceptiosn. my fault.

and yes i kow what you'r talking about with the "incomplete" shields. the peacekeeper ship with only one generator? they get attacked by flame-spewing creatures? yeah seen it. does look impresive.
