help with (DC) multiplayer

hi all, this prob had bn sed so mny times but easier to ask gen. i bought DC when it 1st came out, when i go online or LAN i cn't be n e 1 else but tau or necs. do i need DOW or is there a patch/fix tht is available for it? n e help is great, also is it possibe to play ova LAN with 1 disc or do i need 2? ty (im aware i posted this in the wrong place but my internet is playin up)

You need DoW and WA to play all seven races in multiplayer games. When you have only Dark Crusade you can play only Necrons or Tau in online games, but still can play all seven in single player campaign.

Think of DoW: DC as an expansion to the DoW game. The only advantage it has is you can play it without the DoW, or DoW: WA. If you look at it that way and not a stad alone game, then you wil be all set.

I went to a LAN party this past weekend. There were 8 people there.

I own both DoW and DC.
6 own DoW.
1 owns DoW: Gold (DoW & WA in one pack).

The seven people without DC patched their DoW to 1.51. I could not see their games on the LAN with my DC game browser. We even tried to go to the Online area and they couldn't see the chat rooms that I could see. I ended up having to patch my original DoW and start up DoW in order to see their games.

Obviously I was not able to play Tau or Necrons.

I spent more than an hour on Saturday trying to figure out how to do this, including a fairly good attempt at scouring these boards.

My DC said "Dawn of War engine 1.1", which is what I think was the issue.

I am very disappointed since this interoperability was lauded as a big selling point. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

I cannot get the DoW patches to apply themselves to DC. I tried both the downloaded files and by connecting to the Online utility. I even tried uninstalling DoW to see if the patches would find the DC installation, but it didn't work.

A player with just DoW would not be able to connect to a Dark Crusade game, in much the same way that a Quake Player could not connect to a Doom game.
they are entirely different beasts.

In the case you described, you would have needed to host a vanila DoW game for all players to connect & only the SM, Orks, Eldar & Chaos would have been available.
To have played DC all players would have needed to have a copy.
To play all 7 races in MP all players would need DoW, WA & DC installed.

You may be right, but that is not what was advertised. I direct you to this post here (http://forums.relicnews.com/showpost.php?p=1622508&postcount=10). Most importantly where the large graphic says "Play against all races no matter what you own!" I guess this feature was removed after the graphic was designed.

Thanks for the reply. I'm disappointed that I wasted $30 when I knew everyone wouldn't have DC.

A. No. You must own a copy of Dark Crusade to play against other Dark Crusade players. But all Dark Crusade owners can play against one another, even if they don’t own Dawn of War or Winter Assault. Which products you own will simply dictate what races you can play as online (demonstrated in the chart above).

You can play DC against all races no matter what you own. The key is that you play DC, not DoW or WA.
