Hello

How Big is a HW2 Heavy Cruiser in Meters? Im wondering
because i came across a Really Cool site where you can
Take Various ships of Different sizes and Point and drag
them next to each other in True Scale to see the difference
For Instance you can take the Star Ship Enterprise and
Drag it next to a Star wars destroyer and see the
difference in size. Or take the empire state building and
Drag it up to the Battle star Galactica.

Do you guys keep those Scales in mind when doing
Different Sci-Fi Genra's?I think it would be Interesting
to know how your ships Fit in against other sci-fi ships.

If you havent seen it already the site is

Jeff Russles StarShip Dimensions

Its a Cool site and you can scale all the way up to how the
Death Star matches up against Our Moon!

HC size in HW??? well we aren't sure. as the relic team just did " well this looks about right, so we'll keep it"

no real size-oriented ships. but around 1km maybe? 1.5 km? around the size of an imperial star destroyer???

*shrugs*

Gamalon, here's a site that you should be aware of for questions like this.

http://well-of-souls.com/homeworld/hws/ and then click the various race links to the left to get to the ship type info.

If the information you're looking for is not there, it's pretty much theory. There has been a lot of speculative and extrapolative work on shipsizes tho. :)

(P.S. this thread will probably get hyperspaced to Homeworld Discussion, since it's not really a modificaiton-related topic)

the taiidan heavy cruiser is 555.15 m long X 245.15 m wide X 182.87 m tall. Kushan is 506.26 m long X 237.07 m X wide X 147.88 m Tall.
This is based on the confrimation from Relic that a intercepter is the size of a modern jet fighter.

Nobody knows how big an HW2 heavy cruiser is, cause we haven't gotten our grubby little hands on one yet... :D

We've heard that ships range from a 48 meters in range to eight kilomters...maybe the battlecruiser is two+ kilometers long?

And do you realise that you saying a modern jet fighter is 30 meters long is sayings it's about 90+ feet long?

Since a meter is "The international standard unit of length, approximately equivalent to 39.37 inches. It was redefined in 1983 as the distance traveled by light in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. See table at measurement."

a modern fighter have an average length of about 20-25 meters. This makes them larger than most bombers of WW2.

Well lookie what I found... (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?threadid=8043) (tad on the long side...)

I think that the general concensus(sp) was that trebmal's firgures were the best anyone can come up with at the moment, until Relic gives us actual ship sizes...and really excellent work done by trebmal. (even if I might not exactly agree with him on certain aspects of it...)

edit: trebmal's nice little spreadsheet showing all the calculated sizes seems to have disappeared...reposting it might be nice.

I still don't see what's wrong with the sizes of the ship models themselves. :)

WOW Jal, I thought that mini forum had vanished forever. I still have the spreadsheet, I can post it in HW discussion if anyone wants to see it again. (gives dimensions in HW units, meters and feet)

the subforum did disappear-the ship sizes thread is in the Vault. Your spreadsheet was never posted in that one, therefore, it got deleted with the subforum.

Question to the Mods:

Can trebmal post the sheet into the archived thread, or do you guys have to do it?

I don't think the mods come here anymore. Heh, I think its funny how in the E3 interview it is stated that the manual will be consistent with the game in order to prevent controversy later. I guess we scared 'em with our debate.
