Failure to read disk

There have been many reports about CD-ROM and DVD-Rom drives being unable to read the Dark Crusade disks preventing people from installing the game, manually or otherwise, after two months this severe and game breaking “bug” hasn’t even been stickied let alone addressed in a real and practical manner. The current solution of “install it on a pc that works and send the game to your main pc” isn’t very helpful. I have spent the past 5 hours tinkering with drivers, tampering with settings and skimming through tech support websites and finally id like a straight answer. Is this bug being worked on or not? If this bugs existence isn’t even acknowledged then there isn’t a lot of hope for an actual fix and I can get my money back.

I’m not sure if anyone on the forum is prithy to such information but any response on the subject involving a fix, a lack of a fix, or a work around that doesn’t involve me stealing my neighbors PC, would be great.

My apologies if any of the requested information has appeared before but i have used the search function for all of its relative worth.

We are not privy to any inside knowledge as to what Relic are working on with regards to fixes, no (we are official forums but are entirely fan run).

Im not sure what Relic could do to fix the issue - from what Ive seen the issue is with certain brands of DVD RW drive, a firmware update fixes it for some but not for others - hopefully those of you who still have the problem will be able to download an update from your hardware manufacturers at some point in the future. For now you could try contacting their tech support - if nothing else it will inform them of the issue.

eh i just bought the game today and i pop the disk in to install and then my cd drive wont even read it...is it beacuse its a dvd disk...does this mean ill have to buy a dvd drive? i need answers >.<

Yes. They are very cheap these days so you should be able to pick one up for around $20.

Despite the many people who will try to make you feel like an idiot the box clearly states that the game will run on a 4x cd rom, so the fault for this colossal error is completely in the hands of the developers, developers who have refused to comment let alone correct this issue.... (To be fair it could be the people in charge of printing the disks or many others but for forum purposes we’ll shorten it to developers.)

The people who will try and continue to try to make you feel stupid for the mistake of someone else can attribute their actions to any one of a number of factors, for the humor of myself ill list one

1) These kinds of people are relatively simple, they screw up frequently and an idiot is able to see another idiot whose pants are around their ankles from a mile away. On seeing a chance to ridicule someone (and of course their entirely to stupid to determine whether the reason is legitimate or not) they’ll leap for the opportunity. Unfortunately sometimes smart or in this case even normal people have their pants fall around their ankles too, he took the bait that God, Nature or Cruel Cunning Fate (read: half assed producers) have provided him and now in turn he gets lambasted online by someone who despite not being of abnormally high intellect still vastly outpaces himself.

I’m not saying I’m above this glorious system here, good lord no, see I have done a very similar thing to leaping at someone who’s pants have inconveniently fallen around their ankles. The only difference is that while a fluke act of fate provided him a chance to ridicule me, he actually approached me and removed his pants.

In summary “Moe,” I hope you’ve learned something in the nature of forum etiquette (in that it doesn’t exist) If you want to continue the pretentious douchebaggery that you’ve displayed thus far I suggest you do it on people who actually have an attachment to these here forums.

The back of the box does say 4x CD ROM and this is a mistake - the front of the box says (in much larger letters) that the game is on DVD, therefore it obviously wont work in a CD drive. The typo on the box probably would be sufficient to ensure that you get a full refund from wherever you bought it if you wish to return the game. There is nothing Relic can do to fix this - no software patch in the world will make a CD ROM drive read a DVD.

Im going to lock this thread because there is no technical issue for us to help with, anyone having the issue where a DVD RW drive (which should be able to read the disk) is unable to read DC then you should update the drive's firmware.
