This is my rendition of one of the ships seen floating around in some of the HW cutscenes, like thus (itīs the one in front of the battlestation):
http://www.well-of-souls.com/homeworld/hws/taiidan/images/battle_station3.jpg
Iīm thinking itīs either a civilian freighter or some kind of electronic countermeasures craft (the oversize sensor suite) roughly MBF sized. Here goes:

I made it because of the prospects of being able to put single ships into HW2 and because I, well, like it. Now if anyone could point me towards any information regarding HW style texturing Iīd be much obliged :)
Oh, and do tell me what you think / Andy

Thats brilliant! why not use the origional HW tiidan textures as a base??
What an amazingly good idea!

:wow:
the above says it all. yeah, use Taiidani textures.

Thanks for the friendly feedback. I shall definitely try to texture her old skool taiidan-like, Iīm just not very fluent in LiF, so to speak. Whatīs the best way to make a UV map? What would you recommend as a texturing tool? GMax? Milkshape?

Milkshape is good from what I've heard, although I have never attempted it's use.
Very nice ship thought :)

i could never get milkshape to work properly :( 3dmax is extremely easy to use, thus Gmax should be to, though i have heard rumours that the tutorials are slightly "bad" to put it nicely.

After a little research I found LithUnwrap and its big brother UltimateUnwrap; these are tools solely for editing UV maps. Ease of use and a choice between free (Lith) or powerful (Ultimate, 35 usd). Recommended!
I'm done with the UV map and I'm working on the texture whenever I find the time. I have a newfound sense of empathy for the Relic modellers (and all the valiant modders, of course) for going through this whole process, in five LODs, no less! :)

So long as you LOD down it's not so bad, LODing up isn't a good thing though :)

hm..now that i take a closer look at the picture, i think you mistok the front for the back & vice versa, if the two square things are the engines...
.but its a gr8 modlel given the picture.

And I think the "front" part on your model is more rounded out-in the picture it's in shadow and appears to be part of the battlestation.

Ammon - hmm, in the animatics I think it moves with "my front" in front, as it were. Also, it just doesnīt make sense to me, aesthetically.
JAL - really? Itīs been a while since I saw the thing in motion (even though I oddly enough seem to remember which way it went). Guess Iīll just have to replay HW again :) (never managed to get those animatics posted on Relics site to work)

hmmm...your not even sure :p it could be going backwards...:p
but it looks gr8 as it is.

Your model is indeed backward: just saw the movies again. Also, the black outling underneath is it actually a continuation of it.
(intrestingly enough, at the end of the very same movie you got this out of, there appeares a mouch closer veiw of this ship. Int's the part where you see the guns hanging from overhead. This ship [and another that appears in that pic] both fly through the scene. The ship is obsucred by the middle gun turret though. i'll try and get a screen)

If this indeed is the case itīs much too embarassing for me to find the motivation to finish 'er up. Thatīs the way it goes I guess.
A very pleasant summer to you all.

Hiya. Back from the beach, burnt to a crisp, I decided to continue my venture into apocryphal homeworldiana. This is what I got so far:
The Blurb
The only notable success of the ill-fated Frerrn Imperial Shipyards, the FISY-600 - affectionately known as the "Fisheye" - was comissioned by the local Taiidan proconsulate during the equally brief and unsuccessful annexation of a handful of Frerrn border systems 24-19 BL. The 600 was part of an attempt to stabilize the trade and passenger routes ravaged by the invasion; labelled Light Transport it was supposed to provide interrim emergency supplies to the many outlying colonies in the sector. Due to its heavy armour and impressive sensors array it was however never much of a secret that it was intended as a means of patrolling the unstable reaches of the Frerrn border. The innovative addition of an external cargo pod, delivered orbitally and representing half of the vessels cargo capacity coupled with a comparatively powerful drive system made the 600 perform admirably both in its official and unofficial roles.
The crafts first claim to fame was the evacuation of the proconsul and most of his entourage during the shameful yet inevitable fall of Taiidan rule in the region, whereby a group of "Fisheye" took off from the roof of the government palace on Sorrun III mere moments before Frerrn rebels overran the planetary capital. The appropriate patents transferred to Imperial Taiidan Astrodynamics Corporation (ITAC) proper, the design was refined and retrofitted with additional armour and a pivotable hardpoint, making it a more viable piece of military hardware capable of mounting a dual medium mass driver turret. The principal role of the now redubbed ITAC-610 (nicknamed "Jaws") remained that of a low-volume, high-security freighter although it found use in a variety of functions including troop dropship and ambassadorial shuttle. Becoming attractive on both the civilian and military markets, the adaptable design became widespread and was produced in great quantities up until the Kushan landfall on Hiigara and the subsequent demise of the Taiidan Empire. Many captured "Fisheye" found themselves pressed into their original patrol duty, only now they were monitoring Taiidan insurgence!
The design is after 120 standard years of service undoubtedly showing its age, although several new types of payload have been introduced, including a Heavy Concussion Mine powerful enough to cripple a destroyer and an external booster for improved transorbital performance (the trials of which were almost terminated because of a series of tragic although spectacular failures caused by the swivel-mount). What she lacks in comfort and cargo capacity compared to modern ships she makes up for in ruggedness and ubiquity, a fact that has made the 600/610 something of a favourite in the smuggling as well as Covert Ops communities.

I`m working on the bottom part right now, with the different payloads (the underside bulge I missed...)

What I miss in Homeworld is the lack of contact with "civilians", if you know what I mean, don't think Bentusi really count...

This may be too late to say this, but I always understood that ship as a Taiidan Missile Destroyer.
The other ship to the left of it looks like a Kush design though...

would be nice if i could se them:err:
yeah red X of doom here too

You snooze, you lose :)
Madzīs hosting service seems to have gone belly-up. Any news on Xyphers? Donīt wanna sound like a spoilt child, but the ease of use they offer has made me too lazy to find other ways of hosting.
On another note, I agree with Radioactiveman, Iīd like to see more civilians, that is partly why I made this model.

You show great talent Android. Are you by any chance the Android from conceptart.org?
where's more??

Whoa, thanks, those are some big words from one of the gallery greats! In answer to your query: no, I am not - Iīm just plain old Relic Forums Android ;) As for more, well, my normal creative output is architectural presentational renderings, none of which are very exciting, but itīs given me a basic skill set nonetheless.
EDIT: Well I checked out conceptart.org and it seems that we oddly enough look strikingly similar if his self portraits are halfway accurate. Only natural I guess, us both being Androids and all :)

I'd like to see more civilian inolvement too. Something like huge civilian cities and merchant convoys that have to be protected, etc.
I too get the red X of doom, wish I could see the work you've done... Any chance of working on the "battlestation" that is in the background of the image you put at the start of this thread?

I really like your descriptions, too, Android. I kinda feel like my biggest letdown with "stock" HW2 is that it, unlike Cataclysm, seemed to take me even FURTHER out of the way of the galaxy. Some of the new concept art of HW2 they just released has some really neat pictures of the galaxy, including a proposed interstellar movement screen, complete with standard homeworld "movement dish". I really missed the feel of having a diverse environment; but in Homeworld 2 it was just the Hiigarans who did not all that much apart from your forces, the Vaygr who were mysteriously everywhere, and the Progenitors, who always attacked you. It was very strange... I miss it a lot.
I really like the thought of making a to-scale Taiidani battlestation... I feel like it wouldn't be completely covered with paint like other taiidani ships, maybe just the grey panels it seems to be made out of in the screenshot with borders of color, or patches here and there... the possibilities are certainly endless. What a fun thread.

The Vagyr Frigates are shown in the second Kadeshi cutscene in HW1, as a sort of unarmed fast transport.
