View Full Version : I can't join/host games anymore

So I recently bought the DoW Anthology, and everything worked fine, and I played a couple of games with a friend online.
However, as we wanted to play today, we found that I couldn't host or join games anymore, and I frankly am at a loss as to why this is happening. I haven't changed any settings in my router or my PC, I have also tried rebooting both the router and the PC twice already.
Port 6112 was properly forwarded, since I could play online before, and according to the router's menu, it still is.
So I tried this Net Test tool, and it gives me this:
Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Waited with no reply, make sure udp port 6112 is forwarded.
Anyone have a clue to what is going on?

Check to make sure your PC's IP address hasn't changed.

If you haven't changed anything it could be a bug with your firewall; your ISP or simply just a random occurrence that has altered your router.
Check your firewalls
Check your Router Port Forwarding (also check your LAN IP [Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Command prompt "ipconfig" - Local Area Network IP] to make sure it is the same IP that is having the ports forwarded to it.

Yes, I checked that, too, it hasn't changed.
Edit: And ipconfig also shows the same IP.

Did you add any new software recently? Like Skype? Does your antivirus app have a built in firewall?

The antivir does not have a firewall, but now that you mention it, I did install Skype. Is that a problem? My friend uses it, too, and he doesn't have any problems.

im sure antiVIR doesnt have a firewall cos i use it, skype doesnt do this to my system.
maybe turn off avguard for a bit.

Skype can lag the host system due to the high quality of the codecs used - this lag could in essence timeout the host also if they are attempting connections to other online areas.
This is of course dependant on bandwidth and amount of users in your Skype Conference.

Ah, I see, but no, Skype wasn't and isn't running.
It also doesn't explain why Net Test isn't getting a response from port 6112 anymore :(

Can you disable your Firewall fully (close it down) and then open up your Router's Port Forwarding area in your Internet Browser. Double check 6112 is forwarded with the UDP box ticked.
For a useful guide, check here (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=113920)

I am not running any software firewalls, is it possible to shut down the router's hardware firewall?
Port 6112 is definitely forwarded (well, according to the menu, that is), though there is no box or anything else that says UDP, I only know that it has worked before with the same settings.

The Routers hardware firewall is 'disabled' when you forward a port using its built in program that you access to specify the forwarding criteria.
I would consider contacting your ISP regarding this issue, inform them that you believe your connection is faulty due to an inability to access features that you could only a few days before.
It is a possibility that they are performing maintenance and it is only a temporary measure. Best to contact them to be sure however.

I just noticed something. Strangely enough, Warcraft 3, which uses the same port, does work. DoW does not. What the hell?

Did you forward BOTH TCP and UDP on the router? If you did both, make sure you switch it to UDP only.
SpiderJ
2nd Jan 07, 11:42 PM
I would do that, except I can't find any options concerning UDP at all.
Edit:Must have been ISP related, because it works again now.
