View Full Version : [DC] Fonts too Small

I've been trolling the forums awhile trying to see if anyone has this problem, but I couldn't find anything, so:

Just got DC, works great except no matter what Resolution I run it at, the font size is itty bitty, so much to the point that I feel I have to squint my eyes and move my head closer to the screen.

I tried messing with DPI settings and making sure my AA is off and updating my video drivers as well.

I have a Dell inspiron 9300 with a 256 MB Nvidia GeForce Go 6800.

Game works great! If only I could read it with out a magnifying glass.

Game is updated by connecting to the online portion.

Any assitance is appreaciatted in advance.

Widescreen resolutions do change the game somewhat, and take a bit of getting used to - which resolution are you currently running Dark Crusade in?

I am using 1680x1050 - the view is slightly closer than the ones previous, and the text is smaller than I was used to. In the end, I know the game inside out and the text doesn't bother me so much.

Nevertheless, could you provide also a dxdiag report (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=57900) please?

WH40K.ini file has a line which might be applicable here (check the bold text below), this is what it should read like ...[global]
gameVersion = 1.11

; screen settings
screendevice = Dx9 : Hardware TnL
screenwidth = 1024
screenheight = 768
screendepth = 32
screengamma = 10
screenadapter = 0
screenrefresh = 0
screenwindowed = 0
screennovsync = 0
screenantialias = 0

; network settings (in milliseconds)
connectTimeout = 30000
waitingForResponseTimeout = 20000
keepAliveSendRate = 1000
pingRate = 15000
enumerationUpdateTime = 1200

; lag dialog settings
lagBeforeShow = 2
lagBeforeKick = 45

; max number of chat entries in lobby
max_chatlines = 900

; url of automatchMaps
automatchUrl = http://ocs.thq.com/patches/dawnofwar/automatch/AutomatchDefaultsDXP2Fixed.lua

[lang:english]

; console
consolefont=GillSans_16
consolekey=Control+Shift+Grave

Also, you could try updating your graphics driver (http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R121867&SystemID=INSPIRON%209300&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=6477&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=5&formatcnt=1&libid=6&fileid=162382).

A final request - could you take a screenshot ingame please so I can see the issue at hand?

Also, I've already updated my graphics driver. The link you provided is for the UK, I however live in the US and I am using this. (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R121867&SystemID=INSPIRON%209300&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=6477&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=5&formatcnt=1&libid=6&fileid=162382)

Should I start using the UK one? It's obviously newer.

What is your laptop's maximum resolution and width?
I have a Widescreen TFT and a Widescreen laptop and i experience a similar effect; my writing is that small, however the text box is not as wide.

My thoughts are that nothing is wrong, just that the size of your screen area has displaced the image slightly, forcing enlongation of the text box, giving the impression of small text when compared against the size of the box.

I *believe* the font size is driven by the Font size (DPI) in your display properties.

I've already fiddled with my DPI settings and that has no effect.

And I find it very hard to believe that this is "The way its supposed to be" because I don't have this problem with WA.

The maximum resolution for my laptop is 1920x1200, but it's not a resolution problem... I have the same problem if I run at 1024x768

Try the steps here:

hmmmm

so decreasing my DPI settings (to normal) results in legible text, still tiny but now legible.

but.....

I get the same problem as the guy in the other thread: now my text on Windows is tiny.

I should've known it would be a "fix"

Thanks for your help, I do appreaciatte it... although I wish there was an alternative because while this does solve the said problem, it only creates another one.

Could you provide a screenshot of the text ingame, by which we could compare it with other widescreen screenshots please?

You can upload your images here (http://www.imageshack.us) for free.
