lately when i try and play replays, it stops a very short way into the video just frozen. Sometimes it gives me a "Synch Error Detected" message at the top of the screen, but everythings just at a standstill. I thought perhaps it was because I minimized my game while playing, but i realised all my replays had it, about 4 minutes in. any techie gurus out there that can help me?

Replays of different versions (Dawn of War; Winter Assault and Dark Crusade) along with different Patch versions are not compatible.

What this means is you can only view replays from your current game and patch version.
So if for instance you have Dark Crusade v1.11, you can only view replays that were made using this game version. Replays from v1.0 are not future compatible unfortunately.

Another possible cause of a Sync Error is a player being dropped from the game due to lag, or voted out, or by being disconnected via other means. The greater majority of these produce a Sync Error in replays.

Do you play online or only skirmish?

Were you playing with a mod installed?

I had the same problem with hylander25k but I saved a replay of a game I played in automatch and wanted to view it but after a second or so it said replay sync error.

Is there anyway to fix the replay sync error problem, or is my replay corrupted? The replay was saved today.

Oh, and not sure if what I am doing constitute as hijacking a thread as I have a similar problem and just askign a solutoin that hylander25k MIGHT ask in the future. But if I am hijacking the thread, I am sorry.

You can attempt to rename the temp.rec file in your ../playback folder. This is an automatic saved replay of your last game; hence it is overwritten after each game is played.

Simply by renaming this file to something like 'doh.rec', you can have another replay. It will usually be called the players names (if you played in automatch) or the hosted game name if you were in Multiplayer.
This file is not critical to game function, so moving and/or renaming will not affect your game.
