....If it had been any other company, I would have expected a huge price tag, but Commodore has always been associated with affordable gaming computers, so it will be damn interesting to see what they will be demanding for this monster.
We'll know mid April
One fun detail is that they are preloading them with a Commodore 64 emulator and 50 game classics.... Hardly like they will be able to take full advantage of the monster hardware, but anyhow ;)
The skinning seems to be standard as well;

Well, in the end it's just a PC with the Commodore logo on it.

at a hopefully lower price then buying that piece by piece.
I'm certainly keeping my eye on that one, been looking for a new rig, as my current one is slowing when working in multiple grafic intense programs at the same time (god bless modding on large scale >.<)

Well, I don't see any information about the company, so I'm wondering if the the only relation between classic Commodore and this new one is just in name.You'd think with a name like that they'd put something up on the site that would talk about the company history or ownership, and how this relates to their modern project.

Well, theyve used the old logo, and even uses the C64 font in the menus, and the new computer comes preloaded with a C64 emulator and C64 games, so there's plenty "relation between classic Commodore and this new one";

Well that link would have been great in the OP; I didn't even think this company still existed, hence my suspicion. I was thinking someone just bought the rights to the logo and name.

That... looks like it's going to cost a fortune. I highly, higly doubt it's going to be even remotely cheap or affordable. (to me, anyways)
On the small offchance that it is, i'm so going to get one.

That details that they were just enthusiasts who 'acquired the Commodore brand in late 2005'.

2xGeForce 8800 GS in SLI
Wouldnt it be like, tons cheaper with only one card and it wouldnt kill the performance?

Depends on what game you are talking about, Question. Usually SLI only boosts performance by up to 50%, but on games like Crysis at high DX10 settings, I am sure you will notice quite a difference with another card backing you up.
Oh man how I wish I had the cash flow to get one of those. Sadly I probably won't get a chance to play Crysis for 3 or 4 years. :(

Hate to break it to you hybris, but this is like Infogrames just putting the Atari logo on everything. Commodore has not been Commodore since the mid 90s when the company went belly up and was bought out by a European electronics manufacturing company. Yes the Commodore name has been used since then, mostly on low cost digital music players that sold rather well in Europe IIRC, but it's not Commodore. Well, it is, but it isn't at the same time. I will reserve judgement until the prices are revealed (though I like the idea of a new computer with the C= logo on the front).
Holy shit! I want!
Alienware, WidowPC, Falcon Computers, XPS, Beast Computers and the likes... Back up! Commodore is bak!

Yeah, I know the Commodore went bankrupt a decade ago, but this seem to be the first honest attempt of actually building a decent gaming computer with a C= logo since .... ehm, well Amiga.
With those specs I'd be happy to play on a gaming case with a Commodore logo on it, even though it wont resemble the excellent Amiga OS or being designed by any of the legendary original designers.... Even happier if it includes a customized BIOS bootup C64-style ;)

Commodore died with the Amiga. This is just electronic necromancy.

Yeah, but extremely nostalgic necromancy ;)

You never know, they may make a Workbench style theme for Vista. I'm just curious if they are going to integrate the emulator into the system (i.e. context menu entry or some such thing) or if it's just going to be included as another program (i.e. having to fireup the program each time you want to play a game and loading it via a menu). And I'm also curious if they're going to use their own emulator or if they're using a modified version of something like Frodo.
Eek, the prices are in. Some ~2k pounds (some ~30k DKK, shit!) for the XX.

The basic model only costs £949 though.
Still Core2Duo, Geforce 8 GT, 2GB RAM, Vista and custom case skin.
Kinda cheap considering what Alienware or Dell will make you pay for the same system.
That said; it's always least expensive to assemble your own PC piece by piece manually....

If you want nostalgia, hollow out an old Amiga and fill it with new guts.
The machine listed in the original post starts at £2,899.00. What a deal. :rolleyes:

Molo, that's the highest performance one. The lowest performing one is about a third of the price and still has excellent specs.
Well, in the end it's just a PC with the Commodore logo on it.
Exactly what I was going to say, they have basically nothing to do with the original Commodore company. At best, they're a PC house that follow the "Commodore ethos" if there even is one. It's nice to see the logo around though.

You should be burned at the stake for even thinking such blasphamy. :p

whats allt he fuss about, its not as if the commodore have anything to do with it, they're just pricey gaming machine assemblers, nothing you couldn't do yourself with the right knowhow.
Next you'll start seeing Sinclair PC's and the return of Amstrad, lol

If you've got a WordPress blog, you can turn it into a Commodore 64 (http://www.boingboing.net/2007/04/28/turn_wordpress_blogs.html)... :p

Perhaps I would be interested if the "Last Ninja" was somehow involved.

Hey, this product is MUCH more interesting for Commodore nostalgia;

$ 1,500 for a high end nextgen Amiga
$ 500 for an entry level nextgen Amiga
“I have been working on these designs with Amiga for almost 12 months and have been able to create two new designs that will fully support the needs and desires of today’s Amiga user, while opening the doors for new users, said Adam Kowalczyk President of ACK Software Controls, Inc.
