Solution for 1.2 Dark Crusade Patch Corrupted Error

I tried everything. i had dc installed with dow and wa keys i thought it was causing the problem so i uninstalled dc and reinstalled every game dow-wa-dc. but i was still getting the an error like this: some files have been modified patch wont work etc. even though they were fresh installed. retrying changed the error: Patch corrupted redownload. i downloaded the 1.2 patch from different servers also from gamespy lobby. It just didnt work. 1.11 patches was fine though. no luck :(

at last i searced for this error and saw a post saying i should try in the safe mode. well it took too long and it didnt work in the end.

i had enough space( 3.5GB ) in my temp directory which i had changed to d:\temp and i also had enough space in c:\ partition(where only the windows xp is installed)

i reinstalled the graphics card driver that didnt work as you might have guessed it. also disabled my antivirus but that didnt help except i was vulnerable for 10 minutes. i dont use firewall or something.(windows firewall disabled)

i was thinking my harddisk was broken or something. i run scan disk and it didnt find any corrupted part.

So finally the solution came: Uninstall and reinstall entire windows.
Delete c:\partition
format ntfs full
reinstall windows xp to c:\
d:\ is still intact so no lost data
delete dc folder manually from d:\program files after fresh windows installed or before. doesnt matter.
reinstall dc
patch nicely 1.11 and 1.2
enter registry info for dow and wa for full multiplayer

well this isnt a good solution but it is the only solution that worked for me. anybody having the same problem try the things above and lastly format and reinstall windows. (not repair or reinstall. you must clear all windows data then make a fresh install) i hope it helps for all sad people thinking they cant play anymore dc. :banana:

You must be kidding ? Format and reinstall just to apply a patch ?

I'm stuck with this problem too, i'm running Vista and successfully patched DoW, WA, and 1.11 DC but no luck with 1.2... Could there be a REAL solution ? :)

EDIT : I found the solution : I had to modify the spdx9_config.txt to be able to launch the game under vista (Geforce 7950 GT), I simply put the original file instead and the patch installed fine, and no more problems launching the game ! I'm happy ;)

The only thing possible there was to install the patch in Safe Mode, which adds an extra 30 minutes to the time it takes to run the patch, but it worked.

Formatting and reinstalling windows will fix the vast majority of software related problems you could ever experience. It is not, however, a particularly elegant way to solve them and is best left as an absolute last resort.

Normally, you can find other ways around problems - a format is only really necessary if your windows install has become corrupt or you have a particularly nasty virus infestation.
