I'm afraid I don't know what's up with your patching problem, but I can answer at least one of your questions; that being the Gamespy query.

Basically, Gamespy is a provider of online multiplayer service. You click "Multiplayer", and then "Online" on the main screen of Dark Crusade. You get a log-in screen for Gamespy. Enter your username and password, or create one, and then it'll log you into the lobby.

Whenever you log in, it checks to see if your game is patched. If not, it automatically prompts you to download the latest patch directly from Gamespy. Click yes, and it'll start downloading.

However, if you have problems with your firewall and Dark Crusade, you might not be able to log onto the Gamespy network to download the patch in the first place, so we might be back to square one when it comes to patching your game.

Hi there,

Please can you run the dawn of war port tester (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=63593) and copy (control + c) and paste (control + v) the results into your next post. We can then advise you further on your Firewall problem.

There's a guide produced to help you open your firewall ports, it can be found here (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=113920).

why i have to open the port?
why not automaticly enable for this game?

The game cannot possibly open the ports for you - they are being blocked by other software on your machine or by your router (if you have one).

hi again,
i try to go the site and follow the order, but i found it said invalid IP server address.
what should i put? i use RP 614v1 from net gear.
will it work if u just unplug it and plug in to my modem without via router?

It would if you connected directly to your modem, but you should take the time to understand your router properly.

yeah, please help me. i want to learn too. thats way i am asking.

soo what is the IP address for server?

GroundZero
24th May 07, 9:32 AM
Start Menu > Run > "cmd"
"ipconfig"

Default Gateway should be something like 192.168.1.1; this is the IP address of your Router that you type into a web browser.

You may be asked for password and username - you or the owner should know this. If not, it will be specified in the manual.

If you could take a screenshot of the page in question, we can guide you through an example one, and leave the rest for you to do.

Screenshot the Router Port Page by keeping it open, pressing 'Prt Scrn' located on the top right of your keyboard next to the Function key F12 (typically).
Then open the program called Paint, go to Edit then Paste. Save this file on your desktop as something that is easy to find.

Then head on over to www.imageshack.us and click Browse. Locate the file on your desktop, and Upload it. Copy and Paste the entire link (preferably the second one) that it generates into this forum and there we have it, a screenshot of your Router for us to see.

Righty then...

For reference, these are my results. I have highlighted the relevant areas:

Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Received from /66.134.89.225:6112 to 6112 "udp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:6500 to 6500 "udp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:27900 to 27900 "udp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:27901 to 27901 "udp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:29910 to 29910 "udp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:35956 to 6667 "tcp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:47029 to 28910 "tcp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:34374 to 29900 "tcp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:47289 to 29901 "tcp pass"
Received from /66.134.89.225:47283 to 29920 "tcp pass"

So you will see that there are 5 TCP Ports and 5 UDP Ports that need unblocking.

There could be a riskier, easier method to do this and involves you doing the following :

Service Name : Dawn of War
Starting Port : 6112
Ending Port : 29920
Server IP Address : [Whatever your IP Address is on your network]

Alternatively the longer way but more secure is to type in each one individually...

Service Name : Dawn of War
Starting Port : 6112
Ending Port : 6112
Server IP Address : [Whatever your IP Address is on your network]

The problem that I see possibly emerging is that you cannot specify UDP or TCP, so we are assuming that it is opening both.

Your IP Address that goes in the 'Server IP Address' can be found by the method stated a few posts above, but instead of Gateway IP, you are wanting just your IP, which will resemble 192.168.x.xxx and will be different slightly to your Router's 192.168.0.1.

do u mean i have to type 6112, then next one 6500etc? and give DoW 2 DoW3 etc?
so the server is my IP address in cmd right?

GroundZero
27th May 07, 5:30 AM
Yes, you work through the list as you say.
You might need to refer to each one Differently, so just call them DoW1 etc.

It would be worthwhile seeing if the first method works first however.

ninozz

what do u mean with abit risky in 1st method? what is the worst scenario?

cant wait to try :)

Basically, hackers or Trojans that you have downloaded (if you have no Virus or Malware Scanner) can access the outside world via open ports. As a rule of thumb, each port tends to allow only 1 program at a time to be used through it, although there are UDP and TCP which are different protocols for software - I won't say anymore however, at risk of making it confusing(!).

So if you are opening ports from 6112 to 29920 then all the numerical ports between those two values are exposed to the internet.
Many people will only open the required ports for the tasks they wish to use; whilst others, (me for instance) are DMZ'd to the internet (de-militarised zone) which means that every port is open.
The DMZ option relies on a good router and a strong Operating System together with software based security programs on the computer system itself to make up for the lack of blocked port protection.

In short, opening the ports between 6112 and 29920 is safer than being DMZ'd, but not as safe as just opening the 10 ports used by Dawn of War specifically, but will take longer to setup.

Sorry could you phrase this a bit better please?
Do you mean that it is all fixed now, and you are just reminiscing of the old problem.
OR, do you mean that the problem still remains?

If the problem still remains, then it could hint at a software firewall - try to make an account without them on.

I have this exact problem, is there no way to download a version 1.00 to 1.10 patch? Or am I forced to log in to gamespy?

I do not want to open the ports to access gamespy.

I've probably burned an hour or so looking before trundling into the forums to ask this question... anything?

All the patches are available online - see the sticky (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=104486) or just google for them.

I have seen this sticky.

I have downloaded that exact file.

I have been informed that I am patching the wrong locale of Dark Crusade. I live in north america.

I have downloaded the north american and european patch, just in case.

I have downloaded copies of both patches from different regions from various file hosting websites. All failed to apply.

Dark Crusade 1.11
Dark Crusade 1.2

These are the only two patches available there.

My edition of Dark Crusade claims to be version 1.00

I cannot find a 1.00 to 1.10 patch.

The 1.10 to 1.11 patch cannot apply if the base version is not 1.10.

The only thing I haven't done is just flat out reinstall it, but I don't see how the version will change after a reinstall?

I told you, I've been thorough, I wouldn't ask unless I was at wits end.

Just trying to show you the logic I am using behind the reasoning that I need help, I've tried to solve this problem myself, really! I don't mean my bullet-points to seem belligerent!

GroundZero

To save yourself unnecessary hassle, you can just DMZ your Local IP and update Dark Crusade via the Autopatcher. Then remove the DMZ.

It really is alot easier to update automatically than manual patching unless you have absolutely no choice in the matter (i.e. corrupt game, in which case a re-install is appropriate).

Okay GZ, I'll tear it out and stuff it back in, let's hope there's nothing wrong with my CD...
