This won't be for a while since I still have a 40k army to collect, but would the Battle for Skull Pass be worth it for me?

First of all, I have all the templates/dice/scatter dice from the BfM set for 40k. Are these the same used in fantasy (or are there other specialty dice I need for Fantasy)?

The lizardmen have caught my eye, so I won't need the dwarves/gobbos, though I wouldn't mind having them for practice.

Does the Battle for Skull Pass come with a rulebook like that included in the BfM set? Would I be missing out on a lot of info if I just used that for rules? For example, the small handbook included in BfM has all rules in the same place as the BBB, but is missing kill team rules, pretty paintings, and some fluff, I believe.

Again, this won't be until I finish painting/ironing out my tyranid list (which may take a couple years :) ), but I'm just planing if I want to spend time with the box set or just jump into the lizardmen.

It comes with the skimpy rulebook, and all the templates. I also has 4 normal and a scatter die ( like macragge ), but I also beileve it comes with an artilary dice as well. Another thing is the forces are actually armies, roughly 750 points each, not the 1-2 sqauds in BfM. Your best bet is to buy the set and trade the half f the arfmy you don't want for the same half you do ( ie, if you want gobbos, trade the dwarf sprues for the goblin sprues ). You'l get a sizeable force doing this. I was thinking about doing that this summer.

The starter sets are both great deals even if you dont end up using the armies inside them. The rulebook has everything you need for cheaper than the standalone book, plus if you dont like the models trade them away.

it coems with a d10, needed for the dwarf cannon and pretty much all artillery and a d25 iirc which is pretty much used for nothing.

plus almost 2 battleforce's worth of legal armies. same price as Battle for Smurf's world too.

I would definitely reccomend it. The goblins in it are a better deal, but i think are less points.

If you get it and then sell the sprues individually on ebay you'd probably make your money back and end up with free dice and rulebook. Ofc i didnt tell you to do this and you never heard of me

Awsome, sounds like a good deal then. I just wasn't sure if the rulebook was like the one in the BfM of not.

eBay works, too! :)

same difference :P

it is highly recomended, why they didnt do the same sort of thing with battle for macragge (imagine a plastic broodlord for example :D ) is beyond me

That would certainly be nice, but given that it costs the same as the normal rulebook I'm not complaining about price.
While I don't have the rules, it seems like fantasy needs the higher model count to get a decent game in. Two squads butting heads in fantasy doesn't seem too exciting given that position matters, while a squad of genestealers charging a group of space marines through fire would be more exciting!

GW don't do a D25, but for some reason they do an artillery dice that goes up to 25. I think it was for Epic, or for countries that use cm instead of inches. You don't get that (usually) in BfSP

same difference :P well not really.. if you tried substituting a d10 for an artillery dice you'd get labelled a cheat since there would be no chance of a missfire.. likewise you'd be shooting yourself in the foot if your tried using an artillery dice in place of a d10 when playing Inquisitor.. (at least for skill tests)

You have good taste Lord_Aba, first Tyranids and now Lizardmen!

Battle for Skull Pass, as stated above comes with the barest of essentials; a greatly reduced rulebook, models, basic dice and the templates.

However, with all this talk of dice, don't be confused. The Games Workshop Gem Dice (d4, d8, d10, d12, d20) are all not required for 40k or WHFB. The boxed set will contain all you need to get playing initially, and to supplement the dice pool, you can visit your Games Workshop and ask about the other optional dice available for Fantasy use.

I've overspent purchased on a Lizardman force :
Saurus OldBlood
Kroxigor
Salamander
Lizardmen Battleforce
Codex
...which I intend to get painted up after my Grey Knight 750pt list is painted up and ready. They do look alot of fun to paint, especially after doing Tyranids - your 'nature' painting method will really pay off.
Just remember Skinks are light blue, Saurus are dark blue... and if its big and stompy, its going to be red or brown.

Well, My Lizardmen scheme is red skin and Dark-Grey Scales, with Mithril Sliver on the weapon blades, etc- just like my Tau scheme.
