I have heard next to ZERO talk about it on these forums.
I know the world is filled with LotR fans, so does the TT game just suck that bad?
If anyone can compare, how does it stack up to Warhammer Fantasy?

The game isnt bad, there isnt however much of an overlap between LotR & Fantasy/40k Gamers ~ and what few there are usually darent raise their heads in 40k/Fantasty forums as they are usually outnumbered by the number of 40k/Fantasy players who want to hunt down everyone who plays it and set fire to them, their family, their friends, and their pets as punishment for GW forcing them to read LotR material in WD..
The game itself is more of a skirmish game with models moving individually, with maybe 30-40 men a side being the maximum you can have before it gets a bit tedious ~ whereas Warhammer Fantasy is aimed at 2-5 times as many men moving in blocks

I started with it, it's ok. It's kinda boring but whenever you see/read the books/movies, it makes you fell like playing it =). Actualy, it's now getting more support then when I started ( whn the 3rd edition rulebook just came out ). Also, the models look great too.

From what I have heard even though the "bubble" has burst on the game now the movies are out of mind it is still more popular than fantasy when it comes to sales. Though this is a 40k forum and with the bar on using lotr models in 40k or fantasy in any official situation (hence the different scale, though this is not GW fault apparently but to do with the licence for using the brand) means you will see little talk of it here.

Actually, in the US, for a few years, (while the Lotr movies were out) LOTR outsold both 40k and fantasy in GW shops. It was extremly popular, at least with a slightly younger audience. This was due to the fact that it was very easy to learn. Over the years the game has grown deeper in complexity while still retaining a very easy set of basic rules. I would play it if there were opponents to play against in my area or gaming club lol. The models have even been getting better the the over simplified and smaller scale one of the strating editions.
When comparing it to the other flagship games of GW, I usually say this. Warhammer Fantasy is about Regiments, 40k, is about squads, and LOTR is about individual models, working together. The game is usually played with a lower model count then normal fantasy and 40k games, and the models are cheaper. So its not a very large investment to get into. I would suggest, If you have people near you to play against and want to try it, to pick up a few models. They are at least cool to paint even if you end up not liking the game.

I have heard some nice things about the game but the over making of come charicters (Gandalf making tea, Gandalf brushing his beard, ect.) has always kind of put me off the game. That and the days when it was bigger than both 40k and fantasy are the bubble I mentioned but still it is meant to be doing better than fantasy so I see the game being around for a while yet (I believe they are going into what if scenarios now though to get new ideas).

Its fun to paint, as for a game i like how it is very simplified and could be used for a beer and pretzels deal with the guys. I would love to reainact some battles to see how they turn out. For instance the first battle of the fellowship while travelling down river.
I have played but dont own any of my own models or rules except a few elves i have painted up.

Well, at my gaming store on a thursday night (our main gaming night) and saturday afternoons there is at most 1 to 2 Lotr players there. There are about 17 40k players and 15 WFB players.

i had to learn how to play it in order to even apply for a job at GW. learnt it in a day too :D
i think the main reason why its untalked of is because its lack of 'convertability'. if that is even a word.
or maybe eveeryone is sick of going against High Elves led by Gil-Galad all the time

My local shop claims it dosn't sell well at all and they stopped carying it because of that. And aparently at a usa gamesday it had like 2 tables and the rest was the other two games.
So I'd say in the USA or at least New Jersey, it's hurting.

It apparently sells really well at the GW in Ontario, California which surprised me. They ran a LOTR mega battle and there were 10 guys that showed up with fully painted squads. Surprised the heck out of me since I figured it would go into speciality games once GW gets free of the contract but if it is selling better than fantasy. It might be around for a while but I hope not.

I'm a bit surprised to hear it sells better than fantasy. Then again WFB can be such a pain in the ass to play. Well, not a pain in the ass, more like a huge time sink. But the LOTR game is pretty tight, it's just that this is a 40k forum. Occasionally there's mention of fantasy but on the whole... 40k ftw :)

Well it's also regional. Some areas do have lots of LOTR fans who would enjoy the game, while others don't where it won't sell as well.

Same for all games, you will find areas where fantasy has nearly no presence or even the odd area where 40k struggles even if it by and large out sells every thing else put together. I am not 100% on the figures as it is a second hand source but the person had no real need to lie about it any way.

I played it for a while, but once I got back into the GW hobby, I found very few people played it at the store I frequent.
However, a series battle companies playtesting games has aroused some new interest in the range, especially given one of my friends who swore never to play it now has a veritable army of Hobbits.
Reminds me...need Prowlers. Damned Space Marines...
