Minor discovery. Apparently, the game still checks for updated files. I extracted the the .big file, edited one of the badges stored within it, saved it within the original .big directory, and it showed up in the game.

This means that there's hope: once we figure out how to de/recompile the various files, we just put them into their proper directory like before and we're good.

Enjoy.

It's a great system and I'm glad they are still using it.

OK, I'vetried it and it doesn't work. I've edited LUA, EPN, SHIP, and SUBS files and nothing changes ingame. THe BIGs root directory is Homeworld2 Demo/Data, right? So /art/fx/plasmabomb/plasma_bomb.lua should go into Homeworld2 Demo/Data/art/fx/plasmabomb/plasma_bomb.lua

yes like this it should work. if not perhaps we ahve to use the file stucture taht we can read inside the .lua file ( C:\Homeworld2\Data\...) Taht means without the Demo in the folder name and so on. I will try it tomorow but for now. :gnight: .

yes, badges it uupdates. but i doubt that you can add anything else to the game. i doubt. But that doesnt mean its impossible :p

with the likes of crook and delphy mods will sure to pop out way before hw2 ships ;)

nope, game doesn't check for new files in just the demo. MechaChiken has "confirmed/suggested" this in the other thread - ie - only the proper .big files will work with the game demo (for security or piracy reasons).

Yeah I've noticed. At least we can hope that this feature is like HW: turned off for the demo, turned on for the full game....
