The bad news for me was that HW2 won't run on my PC. The good news for you is that I have to spend my time writing tools for it instead until I get a new PC.

Here's the start of the first one - the font editor. I've got the filespec figured out, and the app will load in any rcf (hw2) font easily enough. The editing will be straightforward enough, as will the resaving. Then hopefully I can incorporate a TTF converter into it like the last font editor.

Here's one of the fonts and the highlighting around each glyph in this data block:

Ok, simply becasue I don't HAVE HW2 working, someone can help me out here.

If you've extracted the big file contents to the correct place, HW2 should look for updated files before anything else (like hw did)

I have a first font test to try out. It goes in (I think)

Data/ui/font

and the file is eurosecond10.rcf

It's the same font essentially, except it replaces all the uppercase characters (A-Z) with a new font, in 1024 resolution mode (HW2 uses different fonts for different resolutions for scalable front end I think)

Soooooo, can you make a copy of your original eurosecond.rcf, then replace the original with this version:

389k

Try it out and take a screenshot or two of any altered text!

You'd also have the honour of getting the first modded bit into HW2 - I think :)

Cheers!

Crook

BTW, dont worry if any other characters are out of place. I'm not sure if they are or not.

Just for clarification, Crook, where exactly should we be looking? Because at first glance, I'm not seeing anything different...

This is the difference in fonts:

http://www.b5mods.com/crook/newfont1.jpg

I stress it'll only show up in 1024 (or SHOULD do, test if you like) and it's not going to be on every menu - just the capital letters that are in this font. If you're sure that it is working, and you CAN'T see any different characters, the only conclusion is that I've picked a font they didnt use in this way. If so, can you take a screenshot of any part of the front end with lots of (reasonably large) text in 1024 resolution. I'll search for that font and edit that one instead....

As a bulletproof test to see if the file is being looked at by HW2, I'd get any old rubbish file and name it eurosecond10.rcf and try that first, the idea begin that if it's not the correct font format the game will most certainly crash and not load up.

That should be pretty obvious, I would think... ;)

I just put a dummy file in, and everything loaded fine, with full text and everything. Maybe it's the placement of the file that's wrong?

Just took a look in the HW2.big, and the file placement seems OK. And I double-checked that I'm running 1024x768 resolution... :hmm:

Here's a couple of front-end screens for you:

Hope they help...

I doesn't look like HW2 checks for updated files outside of the BIG.

If it doesn't, then that's a problem. Unless there is an update.big that we can use.........

I'm sure I've read recently that it DOES look for new files...... where did I read that?

and.... here's a new and better go:

http://www.b5mods.com/crook/B5eurosecond10.rcf

obviously remove the B5 from the filename before using it. It's got A-Z, a-z and 0-9 in the B5 font. Again, it's only the 1024 font.

Well, Hopalong tested it with a badge... but, since the game is designed to take custom badges anyway, that may not have been the best test subject...

Still no font change with the new test .rcf. I went into every front-end screen and into the game, and couldn't see anything changed anywhere. :smash:

i tried here too and nothing...maybe the demo dont look for updated files..

Ahh well, looks like it only does badges. I think this needs to be decided once and for all, as people will start churning out altered files soon enough. A new thread is in order....
