Hi, I want to buy warhammer40k dark crusade.
I heard that I can run this game without the original and the first expansion set.

But I also heard that I need the original and the first expansion set to unlock 5 races out of 7, is it right?

And if that's true, can someone who only has dark crusade play with someone who has dark crusade and unlocked all the races?

and can someone with dark crusade play with someone who only owns either the original or the 1st expansion set?

Im am getting cofused here.I said DC can use the other races.It works like this:

DOW=SM Eldar Orks Chaos on seperate DOW Lobby
DOW + WA=SM ORKS CHAOS ELDAR IG on seperate WA lobby
DC=Necrons Tau on seperate DC lobby.
DC + DOW =allows you to play SM ORKS CHAO ELDAR Tau Necron on the DC lobby with these races.
DC +DOW+ WA =allows you to play with all the races on the DC lobby.

Hope you understand. It explains it on the inside cover of the DC game case.Basicaly DOW and WA give you CD keys to type into DC to allow you to play these races on the DC lobby.
Oh by the way, are there many people still playing this game or am i too late to join the fun? I was playing Command and Conquer3 which came out about 5 months ago and it already died and nobody plays it. Well there is at max 300 ppl:lurk: online at around 3am New Zealand time so for me I do not usually get to play with that many ppl.All other time other times usually below 100 or very low. Ppl have been put of by the long wait to patch 1.3 so not as many ppl online as there first was.I am about to leave because of this.

Edit: DC is a a expansion but you can still play it on its own with tau and necrons so its a expansion and a single game.This is why u need the other games to get the other races on the DC online lobby.

I know that DC can use other races but that's ONLY if you have the other two games, right?
Why don't they just let us play them from the beginning without having to purchase other two games if there is no restriction of using all the races in DC lobby?

Did patch 1.3 come out yet or people are just waiting for this?

2. Patch 1.3 did not come out yet. When and if it comes out, chances are there will be a big jump in online activity, for a while.

1. Yes, it is a marketing plot.

Mind you, Dark Crusade is an expansion to Dawn of War and Winter Assault. Most expansions require the original game and previous expansions to work, Dark Crusade does not. The only way Dark Crusade requires the previous games is to play all 7 out of 7 races online - you can freely use them in skirmish and campaign without buying the previous two games.

To sum it up: Yes, you need Dawn of War and Winter Assault to be able to play as the other 5 races online. Yes, it is to encourage people to buy the other two games. No, it will not change.

By the way, if people all over the world play on one server, wouldn't it lag?

I like the way blizzard always have 4 servers; europe, asia, US east, US west and it rarely lags but Command and Conquer3 puts people all over the world play on one server and the game lags like crazy 90% people stopped playing because of it.\


By the way, dark crusade came out only about 1 year ago so that's one of the reasons I want to buy and join the fun but if it's the 2nd expansion and the game has been out for long time, and people are not playing because they are waiting for patch 1.3 what's the chance of me having fun after buying this game?

I don't want to play if people are already starting to quit before even i get to start.

what RTS games do you guys recommand? Do you guys recommand me to get Dark Crusade as i was thinking or are there any other RTS games that you recommand?
I was a big fan of starcraft and warcraft3, and I played CNC3 until yesterday but I uninstalled it because the gameplay is so slow and units are so tiny that you can't even see them well in my screen.

In my opinion, the game is still fun like the first day it came out. Theres constantly around 200 people on the server and there will always be rooms made ready for players to join.

And yes, there are some lags. I think there's about 3 out of every 10 games that are laggy for me. But it isn't too bad.

About the patch, I would say 1.2 is fairly balanced for the most part. So I wouldn't wait till 1.3 comes out to start playing the game. Besides, It's nice to experience patch changes. It's like a whole new gameplay sometimes.

I think the only recent RTS game that I would recommend is Company of Heroes which is also from Relic. There is some similar elements in that game compared to DoW, such as reinforcible units and squad-based units.

I also heard that company of heroes is a good RTS game but I don't know if WW2 type of RTS game can really interest me.

by the way, it seems I will go buy Warhammer 40k platinum edition that includes all 3 games so I can use all 7 races. and it's only $40.

(Don't get me wrong, I love the Dawn of War series too).
