Yes, well apart from that 70meg, 6 second cock-up I made, this is my first ever render :)
Its just a quick, jerky fly-by of a rotating bab5 station. 2 meg in size and .mov format (quicktime required)
And dont say "OMg TaT es teh CRap" because I cant be bothered working for 30 minutes on a 2 second fly-by. Gonna get me some advanced EF Destroyers for that }:>

I am working on a tool which lets you make movies using keyframe animation, with spline things for turning etc.
It uses pov-ray to render, and should be finished this weekend (if at all, I'm good at vaporware)...
What program did you use, out of curiosity?
<edit> No offense, but that is kinda crap :)
And did you render frame by frame and move it closer, etc? No anim options? or what?

It's not bad..a couple things though:
Add more frames..it flies by too quickly for you to even realize what it is that you're looking at.
The camera seems to jump forward all of a sudden, I'd try to smooth that out somehow.
Other than that it's cool :D
well... you need to definitely smooth out the camera motion. in addition, the actual clip itself is way too fast. can't tell what's in the picture, let alone see any details.
what you want to do is get some sort of easing on the camera motion, and perhaps add in some panning. also, consider placing the camera farther away.

Did it in Lightwave 7, rendered as a portion of a scene (24 frames of a 240 frame scene)
I only moved the camera once per frame, in rather large jumps , which is why it moves very jerkily. When I have more time Ill prolly make a smoother flyby of a destroyer or something smaller.
Im still learning the program tho so Im still experimenting :)

LW has no anim? that's weeeaaaaak....
At least it appears they make you buy another product to be able to animate... :(

First off do you want it fancy and complex or simple yet sweet?
If you want it fancy you need a few more frames depending on the length and the purpose you wish to achieve. (ie if your doing a fighter making a flyby at top speed this would be a nice "flash shot" before panning to another view or zooming in on the actor/ship) If its a slow shot like a "purdy zoom" you need to add a great deal more frames and possibly do what i call "rattling the cammera" (aka giving it more than straight line motion) You can do this many ways depending on what you want to achieve. If your doing a ship you want to make it small due to the fact that wild movement wont be believed. So a small seemingly random eratic "shifting" of a degree or two might make it seem more real...though it would add again some more frames.
If you just want a fast clean animation start up max, LW, whatever and make a "blank world". Create a few simple objects in the exact number of your objects in whatever animation your making. so in this case youd need two (cubes for simplicity). Place them on/near their centerpoints and make a quick animation with no special features. once you get the movement you want smooth and downpat load up your models and animate them. Remember that for every movement you have MANY options. You can pitch, yaw, or roll the image as well as move it. Depending on the speed you want you might need fewer or more frames so be prepared to screw up a few times and learn the long mantra of cursing when you do and have to track down that ONE frame that was out of sync among the 200 you did because you forgot to test each and every one.... :) ;) (pst in other words dont fear testing after every frame if your new to it)

LW has no anim? that's weeeaaaaak.... where did you read that? of course it has animation (being 3d animation software). Lightwave is made up of two program sections (modelling & animating) which are both included with the software.

Well, heres another render, this time longer, more stable camera movement (starfury esque) and more looks at the model being rendered :)

Its in Divx 4 format. Slightly grainy, but at least looks nice. I particularly like the closeness of the rotating section on the pull-back. Accidental :)

I can't play it...:(
Windows Media Player says that no suitable decompressor could be found, and I don't have anything else.
