i just found one motherf*cker of a server lying around and i cant wait to get it online. i wanna host a back-up of the karos graveyard and version of homeworld1 ,homeword:c and homeword2 for multiplayer.

The server location will be in The Netherlands. i wanna make this THE homeworld server on the web.

Lets brainstorm on a few ideas on how to get the multiplayer working without anyone having to push buttons all the time.

i already got a domain by the way: devcore.eu

Just a few questions,

1: how the hell did you find a massive server?
2:Karos is back online anyway. We give credit for Zatch for getting rid of the bots.
3:Have you read any guides on Servers and how to set them up because that will help you a lot.

If you host any of the Homeworld CDs I'll have you banned from the forums. Also do not discuss No-CD patches here.

@thepiratemaster
i would sugest removing ALL mention of no-cd patches and all related off your post.
even mentioning the word ISO or cracked EXE is taboo on this forums so dont even chance it.
just my 2 cent, im trying to help cover your back mate

homeworld 2 doesn't have multiplayer functions like Battlefield, it has Gamespy, Direct Ip and Lan

Lan can be set up through the internet using a program: Hamatchi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en)

As far as i know it can't be set up any other way.

i got that far :P. i actually mean: how do go about establishing a tcp/ip connection and find a way to set up games without transfering control of the server on an operating system to other people. was thinking about creating an unpriveledged user in linux and use cedega or wine to get it working. but how do i go about creating games and such.

i figured making a shoutbox on a site and pick some sugestions for games from there and create those games on a daily basis. i'd take me 20 minutes or so each day but i could always hand out passwords to trustworthy people. and when i figure out all that needs to be done i could automate the process with some perlscripts maybe...

thats on linux...
anyone got any other aproaches?
