Hello everybody
I am french and I bought DoW GOTY and the winter assault extension last week end. I installed the game and wanted to patch it.
GOTY is in version 1.40 even if I don't install WA. It is a french version of the game and the extension, but in my opinion it should not matter.
Well to describe my problem, I tried everything I could think about to patch the game :
Installing DoW alone and downloading the patches using the multiplayer game -> download stays stalled 225/225
Installing DoW alone and downloading the patches using the multiplayer game -> download stays stalled 225/225
Installing DoW + WA and downloading the patches on a video game site -> 1.41 is OK, but 1.50 always fails saying that critical files of the game were modified and that I have to re install the game
Installing DoW + WA and downloading the patches on a video game site -> 1.41 is OK, but 1.50 always fails saying that critical files of the game were modified and that I have to re install the game
I cleaned my hard drive to get some space, but even with 7 GB free space, I have the same error.
I went through forums for some hours now, but can't find any informations. Everybody says : "Download the patch manually" but it just won't work.
I'd realy like to play this game on the Internet, so please, does anybody have a clue ? I am on Windows XP.

It might help if post your dxdiag.txt and warnings.log.
If you don't know how to get them then read this http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=57900

Everybody says : "Download the patch manually" but it just won't work. Does exactly the same thing happen when you try to install the patch(es) manually? Or what exactly won't work?

When I try tu update via the game, the download stays stuck, and when I try to patch manually with files I downloaded from the Internet (I tried several sources), I get the error saying "Critical file files were modified ... re install the game".
I will post the dxdiag this evening, as I am not home for now.

Your Nvidia drivers are over a year old. Try to update those.

Unfortunatly, it didn't change anything. By the way, my drivers were from march 2006 and the latest drivers for my old GeForce 4 TI 4800 SE are from November 2006.
I saw something about the GraphicsConfig.exe that could be responsible for the patch 1.50 to detect false file modifications. Is there someting I could do to verify this point ? Does not the patch produce any log ?

I think about something. last year I had an english version of DoW (without WA) on my computer (lended by a friend no warez, I feel complied to precise this...). Can that be the reason I am not able to patch the game ? Can some remaining infos in the registry hinder the patching process ?
Its possible, uninstall the game - delete the registry folders (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\THQ\Dawn of War\), reinstall and repatch.

It did not work... I am becoming quite desperate.
The registry was clean, the install was fresh. Is there anything I can do to know which "critical files" are detected as modified by the patch 1.50 ?

I'm getting this same issue. I tried reinstalling and both sources. I own all three games individually and was still getting this same errors and problems. I can install them, but it's impossible to patch them.

Some help would be nice. I'd like to really play online and would be very upset I spent all this money on DoW not to enjoy it.

I found a patch.err file in the directory.
For Dawn of war it says :
ENTRY: Engine\Engine.sga
error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.
I bought dark crusade because I wanted to play online anyway and the patch FAILED ! the patch.err file says :
ENTRY: DXP2\DXP2Data.sga
error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.
I mean how is it possible that it is impossible for me to patch the game ? I did not mess with the files, the installs are always fresh and it is a genuine game !
Should I download some crap warez and use my genuine serial ? I can't believe THq would leave crappy bugs like that, there has to be a way !

Don't use the 1.41 patch from the stickied link for manual patches in this forum. When I downloaded it, it says there was a virus W32.Licum. :awesome:

Is anyone looking into this? I also hear the port checker you guys made is glitchy and your direct link to the update files have viruses. Perhaps this is all linked somehow?

Okay, the manual patching is working for me thanks to Fileplanet. I think the issue might have been the fact your links to the patches were all infected with viruses. I also believe that your autopatching servers might be down. (Possibly due to the same infection!) I don't know why I can't use the autopatcher other than to say it has to be something on your end. I'm sure of this due to the fact I've installed this game like 6 times and have never had this kind of problem before. I even did a fresh windows install to try to fix my problem but no joy. This is obviously an issue with your patching server. Also, I hope to hell you guys sue the jerk who infected your patch files with viruses cause this game is so awesome! Rock on Relic! Rock ON!

This is just a fan site, so the patches weren't being hosted by Relic. As far as the online patching process is concerned, that is run by Gamespy, so that's a different matter entirely(there can be a lot of reasons why that might not work). Regardless, I'm glad you managed to get the patches installed in the end.

I confirm there is something wrong about the patches. I re installed Windows and re installed the game. Then I downloaded the files from FilePlanet and this time it worked.
Virus or not I do not know because Avast detected nothing, but Avast does not detect W32 Licum.

I am having the same issue trying to put DoW on my new machine. Vista Ultimate and NVidia8800 with drivers downloaded today. I'm trying manual patching which seems to be working but the built-in patch doesn't work.
