Wow. I switched from At&T's dsl to Comcast's cable and all my gamespy issues went away.

Basically all my gamespy and NAT issues came from my ISP and not my router settings. The DSL signal I was receiving was already getting a NAT treatment even before it reached me so opening my ports and adjusting firewalls didn't do anything. WHen I changes services to cable (due to extreme dissatisfaction with my DSL service), all my NAT issues went away. Gamespy is sickenly smooth now with both cable and open ports. I don't even get 2/2 anymore because everyone can join my games and I can join anyone's game, whether or not they are having the NAT issue or not.
In short, if you are finding that gamespy is screwy and slow and its impossible to join certain games in a smooth manner, check with your ISP and ask if they have some NAT treatment to the signal you are receiving, because if they are already screwing with it before it hits your modem/router you are just screwed and no amount of opening ports will do anything.
