View Full Version : Working 1.41 patch?

Could someone please link me to a working 1.40-1.41 patch? I've tried some 12 patches from 8 different sites, including two officially linked ones plus Fileplanet. None of them worked.
What happened is the regular Chose language, then the info as usual. Click Continue there though, and the patch seems to stop working. It makes no progress, and clicking cancel does nothing. It also consumes 50% CPU. This is endless; I’ve tried leaving it like this for several hours once without change.
I've also tried to uninstall everything, go into the folders and delete the spare files left over, and then reinstall DOW, followed by WA, but no go.
I'd appreciate any help with this.
Given the number of mirrors you have tried I think its safe to assume that the problem lies with your PC and not the download.
The patches need to unpack a large number of massive archives, they can take a while - but if youve left it for several hours with no change then something funny is going on. I suggest shutting down all software on your PC (particularly virus scanners and the like) and try installing it again. Disconnect from the internet if you are worried about security.

I don't have a Antivirus any longer. Haven’t had a virus in 4+ years, and it was doing more harm then good, so I uninstalled it a few week ago. Security=(Firefox+NoScript)*Brainpower
Anyway, it's not antivirus, but I suppose it could be Superantispyware, doubtful as it is. It has slowed some large files in the past... I'll try shutting it off and applying the patch later. I might have already done this, but I’m not sure, so it's worth a try.
What is the average time for patching on an E6700 Core2 processor (or similar)?
---
Edit: Update! Tried shutting down superantispyware, and let the patching program run for 30 minutes. No deal.
One thing I’ve noticed though, is that the file description for all the patches I’ve gotten (x-1.41) is TODO: <file description> , but this does not apply for earlier patches.
Looking closer, the ones following 1.41 also have that description, so it might simply be a miss...
ok, post a dxdiag.
Give your HDD a full defrag as well.

Ok, Defragging now, and here's the Dxdiag.
Hmm, plenty of harddrive space. Try again when the defrag is done, see if that makes a difference.

Tried it, and no change. Still no go.
Try moving the patch file to the patch folder in your DoW directory - it seems strange but this has helped a couple of people (it really shouldnt, but try it).
As to how long the patches should take to install - my PC is fairly dated (3GHz P4, 4+ years old now) and the patches have never taken an unreasonable length of time for me. When this happens it is normally either a really really slow PC which needs to be left for 10-20 mins to slog through the unpacking or some other software interfering with the process.

Odd. Very odd, but yes, moving the file into the patch directory worked. Is there maybe a piece of code pointing to the dir in the patch? This really shouldn't matter, as it seemed to know where the installation is located.
I had to do the same thing with the 1.41-1.50 patch too, as it acted the same.
Also for the 1.50-1.51 patch.
I suppose there was a change of some kind after the 1.40 patch were released.
Anyway, my game is now updated to 1.51, so all is well.
