Patch for Dark Crusade?

Since there are some changes for the other races in Soulstorm does that mean DC will be changed aswell?

This would be good to give us jaded fans of Dawn of War an oppertunity to test the balances among the races (myself and a few friends quit DC because of them and would like to play again if I wasn't forced to build the same 2 imba units every game :p )

Soulstorm is pretty much the de facto "patch" for DC, I highly doubt they are going to patch DC at this point, and would prefer to just patch Soulstorm.

DC and Soulstorm are different enough in the engine and what have you that patching both would be a large pain from my understanding.

A company does not have any "obligation" to appease jaded gamers. This is capitalism, if you don't like a product, don't buy it. It may be in their best interest to support DC, but as a consumer you have a responsibility to not purchase products you feel were poorly done/and or supported.

Meanwhile, obviously enough people like DoW that they warranted producing a THIRD(!!) expansion. I bet they didn't just make it for kicks.

Also:

Plenty of great mods are out there for DC, DCpro, Fire over Kronus, and more. Try those out if you don't like the "imba" in DC.

There will be no new patches for Dark Crusade, just as there were none for Vanilla or Winter Assault once there successors made it to market.

Long story short: I wouldn't hold my breath.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I am not asking if they are going to make a patch solely for DC I am asking if all changes that were applied to the other races will also be for DC.

For instance, the new Grey Knights that are now pushed back to T2.5. DC won't have a patch for that?

You did get one point, and that is that it would probably be in their own interest, money wi$e and for their personal drive of making games :D especially since their new titles weren't so good like Titan Quest I beleive it was, hence the THREE expansions Lol. Though I'm not 100% sure if that effects Relic so much.

The goal is to get people to move to Soulstorm. That's not just a direct matter of copies sold, it translates to more people in the same game lobby (SS) instead of just sticking with DC.

I wish DC had been better supported in terms of balance, but with a new expansion out it really is unrealistic to expect it now. That said, DC was and is a lot of fun. I've sure as heck gotten my 40 bucks of fun and much more out of it. Same as all the previous DoWs.

Sorry that you're "jaded" by the series, but not every game is great for every person. I'm sure 99% of the people who enjoyed DoW will get their money's worth out of this, and in turn the cash and support helps keep future 40k games as seen as "worth it" by the developers and their backers. If you really want to sit out SS though, you can try the mods as mentioned.

... to put the Soulstorm changes into DC would require making a patch solely for DC. Unfortunately making a patch isn't just a matter of coming up with the changes, they have to run it through an extensive QA test cycle, regardless of ho big or small the changes are. =/

Buggo had said previously that they were looking into whether it would be viable to make another patch for Dark Crusade, but that of course wasn't a guarantee that there would be one... if there was going to be a patch to update it to SS gameplay, then it would have been in the works for quite a while. I really don't see it happening, though, as there's no reason why they would... Dark Crusade was designed to play one way, while Soulstorm is designed to have a different type of gameplay. Patching DC with all of the SS changes would render everything that they'd designed for DC moot, and could by a stretch of the imagination theoretically also result in lost sales (from people saying, "Well, why buy a new game... sure I won't have the new races or the air units, but other than that it'll play exactly the same.")

There won't be a forward compatability patch for DC, I'm pretty sure the reason for this is because while you could play against the Sisters or Dark Eldar just fine with your IG, Necrons etc you couldn't match their ariel units since DC has none.

Also, was DoW patched to play with WA? Was WA patched to play with DC? No. And it won't be so with DC patched to play with SS.

WA was a 'true" expansion to DoW vanilla. (I didn't buy WA till the Gold Pack came out, so I don't know if DoW worked with DA online or not)

DC and SS are "stand-alone" expansions.
