View Full Version : Soulstorm Installer doesn't work with Vista x64

Ok, this is kinda annoying. All the previous DoW's work perfectly, the Soul Storm demo worked perfectly. But I buy SS off of D2D and I can't install because the installer insists it can't run on 64-bit. XP compatibility mode does nothing.

Any ideas?

Intel C2Q6600
4Gb OCZ Platinum
GeForce 8800GTX
Vista Ultimate x64

Oh, UAC is disabled and running as admin doesn't help either (not that it should).

I suspect this may be a copy protection issue: SecuROM does a lot of trickery to prevent unpacking/cracking, so it may be that one of this tricks actually is just specific to 32bit machines.

I d/l it from d2d as well and I have Vista 32 and I can't get it to install either. I'm waiting on a response from them. Maybe they uploaded a bad version or something (which has happened before)

Since you both are running Vista, it may be an issue with that specific operating system. Maybe try installing it on XP and see if it works or not. Also, it would be cool to know if any vista user managed to install and play the game properly.

I tried running the installer in xp compatibility mode but to no avail. When I double click on the setup.exe a little dos window pops up for a split second then nothing happens. :disgust:

Has anyone else had this problem or can help?

That's what I'm thinking. I seen a few people install it fine, but others have the same problem as me. I'm waiting on their tech support to contact me. Thanks for the help though.

Let me know what they come up with for you. I love doing electronic purchases, but this is the second time they have done this to me now. It makes it really hard to justify continuing to give them my business.

I had many issues that came up while attempting to install SS so I am just going to start from the begining and go from there.

I put the disc in the drive and get the Autoplay windows. Click install and nothing happens. So I go to Computer and then attempted to explore the disc which then crashed explorer and had to restart Vista Ultimate x64. Astonished did this several times same resulte.

I then uninstalled all DoW product. Still same issue persisted.

Uninstalled SP1 (Beta)

Could finally explore the disk. I then went to properties on setup.exe and went to compatability tab and set it to windows xp sp2 compatability. Then right clicked again and went to Ran as Administrator.

This started the install Finally!!!

But then the game would start but never come up. The rest of the story is in that discussion.

Hope this might help you!!

Did you say your space on your computer is 4GB?

The game is 4GB itself.

So you bumped a 9 month old thread just to call someone a 'dumbass' for making a small mistake...

Kind of ironic how you're calling someone a dumbass when the thread hasn't been active for 9 months now.

Next time, look at the date of the last post, then exercise a bit of maturity.
