"A required security module can not be activated. This program can not be executed."
Wow thanks. I go buy the game, install it and now this?
Any idea what it is and how to fix it?
Would a no-cd patch do the trick?
Make sure you have all updates on windows update and try again.
Possible Solution: OK, this solution worked for me, and requires a little change to the registry.
1) Select 'Run' from the Start menu.
2) Enter 'regedit' into the text box and either hit return or use the OK button.
3) Navigate to the following registry key: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/MountedDevices/
4) Right-click over it and select the 'Permissions...' option on the menu.
5) Make sure that every user has the permissions for the read option set to 'Allow' (i.e. not set to 'Deny').
6) Close the Registry editor and start up SoulStorm!
Thanks to Strobby on the IGN.com message boards for figuring this out.

Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Securom#Known_problems.
Specifically, this:
"...prevents the game from running at all if older versions (before v11) of Process Explorer, a free tool by Sysinternals/Microsoft, has been run since the previous reboot..."
I run Proc Explorer almost immediately on restart. So, after reading this I decided to reboot again and not launch procexplorer before trying the game and what do you know? It worked!
Good luck.
