View Full Version : Missing Sounds and Textures for Sisters of Battle when purchased via Steam.

I just finished downloading Soulstorm from Steam, and have run into a fairly major issue. The Sisters of Battle models and sounds seem to be missing. When attempting to run a mission, I see a bunch of pink blocks with an error on them.
I've attached a warning.txt to help in troubleshooting.

Well, from the log it seems that the files are missing... check if the files that are rteported to be missing are actually there: if they're not there, well, try redownloading. If they're actually there, it may be a permission issue.

I have the same problem, one additional comment i can make was during the installation.. there came a part with a DirectX installation window, and it failed reporting an issue with "cryptographic services" or something of the like.

Hmmm, it starts to sound like for some reason the download was fine, but the decryption of it failed for some reasons... Maybe due to wrong crypto key or older versions of the crypto library.
Could you please post the version of the Crypto library you're using?

if you tell me exactly where to find that, i will! First time i've ever run into this situation so i'm not quite sure where it is! :spartaaa:

Ok :) Go to your folder c:\windows\system32. Locate the file crypt32.dll (MS Windows Cryptographic library), select the file and right click > properties. Select the version information tab, and select the "Product version" field.
Then note down the value that gets displayes: it is your version of the Crypto Library. After this you can check if your library/system needs upgrading.
However, i suggest you read more about the crypto lib:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa379884(VS.85).aspx
It may also be that just downloading the latest patches from MS will fix this.

it gives me version 5.131.2600.2180 which as far as i can tell from the link, seems to be correct :/
boo. and after uninstalling it, reinstalling it a few times, those installation windows never reappeared... after the first reinstallation, the sound issues disappeared byt the graphic ones were still there.
After the second installation (i did a windows update before the first one) it loads the intro videos, but once it gets to the loading screen (dawn of war: soulstorm graphic + all the various companies/groups on the bottom) it closes and goes back to my desktop :(

I went digging around and noticed something...it seems the folder that it stores Soulstorm into was marked as read only at some point, which is probably what prevented the saving of a number of data files.
So, I unchecked the read only flag, applied and then validated the install in Steam. Now that I've done that, everything seems to be working correctly.

It may also be that the directx part you're mentioning was partially corrupted... This starts to sound probable due to the fact that subsequent installations did not give you the error: in fact, the installer will launch the directx-related installer only if it was not previously installed.
So, investigate what this DirectX-thingy was, try to uninstall it, uninstall ss and then reinstall the whole pack. Also, when you discover what this "DirectX-related" thingy was, you can for sure get it officially from microsoft - with little chance of it being corrupted.

I just did another round of uninstall/reinstall, then did that trick with read only (which i'd read in another thread). That seems to have done the trick :D
Thanks for the help!
