Hi,

after about 10 - 15 minutes of Playing, Soulstorm is crashing to the desktop without any error messages, except the crash log

From the crash log, you can see that the error happens inside ntdll:wcsncpy, which is a string function, that accepts two pointers. Given the fact that the stack isn't smashed, I suspect that a null pointer reaches somehow the function from SoulStorm's code.

Is your system fully patched? Applying security patches may solve the issue.

Do you have some hacking tool running or memory tampering software? Try killing those processes/remove programs from disk.

If this does not work, then try to reproduce the bug. Does it happen after some time? Does it happen when you do something specific in the game (like pressing a button or loading a specific map)?

Until I get my copy, I can't help more than this, I am afraid: if you want to investigate yourself, you've too look inside H:\Spiele\THQ\Dawn of War - Soulstorm\Memory.dll.

Thank you for your answer!

Unfortunately this error occurs everytime, doesn't matter which race / map i am playing. After all, this never happened to DC/WA or DoW. I now tried to make a clean system profile, and that strange error still happens...

Yes, my system is fully patched, one profile with XP SP2 and another one even with SP3. Hacking Tools or memory tampering software? hmmm, don't know but don't think so. I even tried to kick all unneccessary applications out of the system per task manager / processes

I would try to investigate this memory.dll but my system knowledge isn't that good... -sigh-

I strongly suggest to contact support right away, this issue may be something that they know already. Anyway, I'll try to have a look myself as soon as I receive my copy.

Okay, solved the problem...

There is a protect function in my AVM Fritz!Box Router. I deactivated it and now it works without any problems. Never thought that a hardware firewall will cause that much problems ^^

Anyway, time to get some blood for the blood god ;)

And thanks for the answers

I got a crash-to-destop while playing a custom skirmish battle. The game crashed approximately after 15 - 20 minutes of playtime. SS Error log and DxDiag follows.

Best regards

I got another crash to desktop while playing a skirmish game. This time, I used the DoW Skirmish AI 3.0 mod.

run memtest86 to check your RAM for errors.

Done, no errors found. Maybe this can be used for the SS 1.2 patch.

Ok, stop.

We don't need one problem after another in the same thread. Everyone needs to open their own individual threads.

neucromaner: that looks like an actual bug - post in bug submissions and/or email THQ support. For fixing it they may find a replay helpful if you are able to reproduce the problem in a skirmish.
