View Full Version : Soulstorm start-up crash while submitting CD keys

Well, this is a bit of a weird problem.
With Soulstorm released I did a clean reinstall of all games in order of release date(new Win installation, blah blah). When done I launched Soulstorm. It prompted me for the CD key for Dawn of War. I supplied it. Prompted me for the CD key for Winter Assault. I supplied it. But when it was supposed to prompt me for the Dark Crusade key, it crashed. I reinstalled the game and I even started up DC first to create a profile there. Launched SS and it crashed the same way.
Now that I've submitted the DoW- and WA keys it simply crashes as soon as it's done loading after the intro videos.
Now I noticed in the warnings.log that it's complaining about missing folders and missing files, among them one named 'W40kW40kDataGOTY.sga'. There is a file named 'W40kData.sga' in there but to my knowledge SS hasn't been released in a GOTY box and I do not own the original DoW GOTY edition.
Help?
This happens to me too. I tried to manually add the DC cd key in the registry. I assumed the cd key name would follow the same pattern as the other CD keys (W40KCDKEY and WXPCDKEY) and named it DXP2CDKEY. This didn't work. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or if it's something else ... Could somebody check their registry and see what the name of the registry entry should be (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn of War - Soulstorm)?
I could run the soulstorm demo ...

Same problem here, deinstalled everything and then did a solo install of SS - works fine. Beside this problem, I have to run WXP in safe mode to get the installer working, it crashes in WXP. So I installed SS three times today in WXP safe mode, takes 80min... little bit pissed, but it works. Just have to add all the cd-keys and exe files manually. *gah*
Odd. I backed up and removed the dow and dc entries from the registry (without uninstalling) and then suddenly soulstorm was able to launch without problem. However I want to have the previous games installed too, any solution?

Did you delete only DC and DoW? I'll check it out tomorrow at friend, too tired to search the forums now for the correct registry entries, but would be nice if someone would post them.

How did you add the CD-keys and .exe-files manually? And that worked for you?
not to insinuate anything, but i believe the leaked release has a bad exe crack that causes this very problem. if you happen to by any chance be running this copy (not saying you are), you might want to look for the crackfix.

I deleted both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn Of War\
I haven't had time to see if I can play all races online or not. The game doesn't crash at least. I tried to import the registry entries I deleted and then soulstorm wouldn't start again ...

I'm not sure if it worked or not, but you should be able to do it like this (in windows xp):
1. start -> run -> regedit
2. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn Of War - Soulstorm
3. right click -> new -> string value (not sure what the exact words are since I have a Swedish OS)
4. Name the string W40KCDKEY
5. Edit W40KCDKEY and enter the dawn of war vanilla cd key like this: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
6. Create a new string and name it WXPCDKEY, then edit it and enter the winter assault cd key.
7. I don't know what the Dark Crusade cd key should be named yet. Somebody have to confirm this, but I guess it should be called DXP2CDKEY. When you know what it's supposed to be called, follow the same procedure as before and edit the string and type in your dark crusade cd key.
I'm not sure if you need to have the .exe-files for the previous games or not, since I haven't tried without having them installed ...
