View Full Version : Downloaded & Installed SS from D2D, can't even start the game.

Gonna make this quick:
I downloaded SS from D2D yesterday, it finished overnight, and installing it seemed to work completely fine!

Then, upon completely finishing everything and clicking the desktop icron, I get this message:
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
So, I go and reinstall it after much mumbling, and, even after countless attempts at reinstalling, I continue to get the same damned problem. I've looked through readmes and FAQs and nothing seems to adress this problem.

I think it's a problem with the D2D version, but I cant confirm because their tech support won't respond.

I really hope I dont have to DL it again; I already had to do it twice because it got corrupted the frst time, and both times it took more than 10 hours to finish downloading.

I'm considering getting it at EBgames and asking for a refund myself...

Yeah I'm gonna have my bank refund the money since they cant seem to respond to me. Last D2D purchase I'll ever make.

SO has anyone else run into this issue? Has anyone actually succesfully installed and played the game after purchasing it from D2D?

I think I've found the problem.
Heres from a thread in DoW GD:
Go to direct2drive.com go to my account, next to your purchase should be download, and then to the right there will be a key you put in for your automatic activation. enter this key click activate and there you go.
Ok, I installed SS and everything but am continuing to have problems start the damned thing- I think this is my problem. I have not at any point used this activation key. I think I have to use it before the game will let me play, but I cant find where I need to use the key. Can someone help?
So yeah. I'm 100% sure I have not "activated" the game; I have my activation code, I just can not find where to put that code.

Ohh maybe that's my problem as well. Thanks, man.

What's the DoW GD forum BTW?

i bought on d2d with no issues.

When you install soulstorm it'll install and will ask for the SS install code.

However, when you first start the game after full installation, it'll ask for the d2d code. The d2d code can be found by logging into d2d and copying the activation code from the "your account" page.

I just registered with this forum to say:

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you , thank you, scooby0110, that solution worked for me.

Makes you wonder why they would include the wrong distro of the visual c++ runtime with the game, though.

Anyway, did I mention thank you?
