I just tried installing the game a few times but whenever I try to start the game, it begins to read the CD then stops and the window never pops up, I can even see the soulstorm process is running. So I did a bug report, can anyone help me fix the problem?
*edit* Alright I had to upload this pic because of a link error or something, so here:

I had same problem make sure you do not have an emulator installed at all ( not just disabled) and make sure you have uninstalled the demo if you have it.
Sorry i do not which caused the problem with me I just removed these two things and hey presto mass destructure my girls in armour

no its not the emulator. I have a clean XP rig without anything. no bit torrent, no Nero, no nothing. Just XP and Direct X and the game still doesnt recognize its own disk.

I reinstalled the game after it started happening to me and it seems to be a 'memory access violation' with the soulstorm.exe module.
It's a problem with a stack that can't access any physical memory so it just dumps it to a .dmp file in the DoW directory.
I was going to try and get just the .exe from somewhere and overwriting my old one.
More specifically its with the stack 'MemManagerOverloads'.

I've ran into the same issue after the game was installed. Go to the soulstorm directory and launch "GraphicsConfig.exe". After I launched this utility, I've had no more issues. Hope this helps.
Tried that and it doesn't work (Iv got the same problem as topic starter) When i try n shut my pc down it even comes up with end programme for soulstone. Also now i can't even run DC or any others. I might do a system restore to last week or install all 4 dawn of wars again.
Has anyone tried rining tech support? Think its worth me trying tomorrow?

Here is what I did, Hope it helps!
I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS, so my references are to that.
I open up C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\DoW SS\ and then went to properties for the soulstorm.exe file and put the file in to windows xp sp 2 combatabilty mode and checked the box at the bottom to "Run this program as administrator". I then ran Graphics Config and fully setup.
Started DoW SS and it started up! I did turn off the compatability mode also and it ran also.
Hope it helps!

I'm having the same problem as well. I get the spinning CD icon for a few seconds and hear the disc spinning up inside the drive and then it all just stops and it goes back to my normal cursor. Nothing I've tried works, the game will not start up at all... This is so blasted frustrating.

That is EXACTLY what happens to me, it's not my fault after all xD

That seemed to work for me, so i suggest to anyone with this problem to try it.

I've done that twice and I still get the same thing. The game just refuses to play for some odd reason.

Its their stupid effing copy protection which does notthing to stop torrenters but makes those of us who buy games for real miserable.

I got it working finally! I changed compatibility mode to Windows 2000 and it took a while but finally started up....Now if I could just not have to save every couple of minutes due to my computer locking up all the time. (bum videocard.)

Aaaaand....After being able to play it twice. It's back to not starting up at all. *sighs* I'm about ready to just give up and shelve the game. Dark Eldar were pretty cool too...

So the game thinks we are playing copied versions? even though that's OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CASE >=/
I bet if I torrent this damn thing and use my real CD key it would work z.z

well from a most recent response from THQ they said it might be Xfire, it could be the 1024X*** resolution, or some files missing. they actually discouraged me from just downloading it from steam or D2D

Could you guys try loading the game without the disc in the drive? If you dont get an error message asking you to insert a the correct disc in the drive or something along those lines it basically means the copy protection is busted. If this is the case, you can actually contact SecuROM, the makers of the copy protection and send them a launch analysis file which should tell them whats going on. To get the launch analysis file, right click on the Soulstorm icon and select 'Launch Analysis', then follow the instructions. Send the file, along with the name of the game and a little description of the problem, to support@securom.com, they should be able to figure out whats going wrong.

I've tried that as well as E-mailed SecuROM. I get the error when I have no disk in the drive and SecuROM replied to me and said that it isn't them...Soooo, nothing's been figured out yet. As it stands I've given up on this game for now.

Hello. Today i have buyed the game and I have the same problem. I tried all the tricks that you posted here but nothing worked. Finally I was trayed to put the soulstorm DVD in the DVD recorder (always before i tried it in the DVD reader) and the game finally will started. In other words, the game only achieves to run when I put the DVD in the DVD recorder. It is very very strange but works for me.
P.D.: I prefer the same systems that use DOW and DC that didn't need the DVD everyday in the DVD drive to can play :(

Reldn, have you had a look to see if theres any updated firmware available for your DVD drive? If the disc isnt being detected properly, a firmware update can often fix that. You also get back to SecuROM and tell them it is their problem, its their copy protection system thats messing up because its not detecting the disc. You might also want to try the disc in a different computer to ensure that it actually works and that it isnt faulty.

I had the exact same issue. I successfully installed the game, yet every attempt to launch the game, resulted in an error:
"No disc inserted.
Please insert the CD/DVD."
The THQ support site suggested uninstalling ALL software designed to protect my computer from catastrophic disc failure.
I attempted uninstalling all Nero products, disabled my external DVD/RW and Maxtor backup drive... but, still no joy.
JDIAK's post about running the 'Launch Analysis' helped a lot though. SecuROM responded the next day with, yet another app to remove:
SonicDLA
Now, the game actually launches and plays (mostly) without a hitch. Although, I'm disappointed in the actual gameplay. The single-player campaign was handled much better in DoW & DoW:DC. I'm not so sure it was worth all the aggravation.

Ok... it played fine 2 days ago and now I get a new message:
"Original disc could not be found or authenticated."
There are several threads in this forum complaining about this over-zealous copy-protection hampering legitimate use of authorized purchases, with only forum members providing the most help (sometimes at the risk of being suspended).
So far, this experience has been about as 'buggy' as KoTOR2... and I haven't even tried online yet.

I am having the same problems myself. I bought this game over the weekend, I got to play it for an hour, then spent the whole time since trying to get it to read its own DvD.
After uninstalling it and clearing every registry key, THQ folder, and uninstalling the other DoW games I got it to finally read its own DvD to re-install.
But now it says a required security module can not be activated and it cannot execute this program. :(
Any help with these isuues forthcoming from the official folks?

A required security module is a securom error.
support@securom.com with launch analysis attached is your next stop.

Has anyone resolved this. I am experiencing almost the same thing.
I bought the game from Amazon, and put it in my DVD drive hoping to finally play the Dark Eldar, but the drive spun up for a second, but then quit, not recognizing that there is a disc in at all. Everything driver-wise is up to date, so I put it in my laptop, and the install screen came right up. Wierd. Maybe my drive is going out, so I tried it, and it worked fine.
Using my laptop, I familiarized myself with how to make a disc image, and did so. Then I mounted the image on my laptop, and was once again happy to see the install screen pop up.
Great. I took the image over to my PC, mount it, and get the message that my drive "...is not formatted."
So, here I am, looking for a reason that this is happening, when really all I want to do is snare slaves on my raiders.
Help!!!
I have a gaming PC, so I've already checked all the standard problems.
PS. DOW: Gold works fine, but Dark Crusade is now acting exactly the same as Soulstorm.

Seeing as how nobody has responded to this thread in 7 months, I think it's safe to say "no".
I suggest starting your own thread as it will allow us to provide special attention to your particular issues instead of resurrecting old threads. Thanks.
