This has happened TWICE now,
first with WA and my Geforce 6600
And yesterday with SS on my new 8600.
What happens? I play DoW for a few hours, it's all good
I close the game,
press the Start button -> Quit -> Reboot
The system does it's thing, turns off and reboots
And. Then. No. Screen.
The monitor is now in "Power Saving Mode" and won't snap out of it
I tried with a few other monitors and it's the same deal

LAST time I went out and bought a new gfx card.
This time around I just can't afford it.
So what the hell is wrong and what do I need to do to get it working again?!

at a guess I'd say that:

1: You don't play alot of graphically intensive games - not that DoW is demanding but I mean opposed to older, web based or sprite based games
2: The fan on your gfx card had gotten clogged up with dust and died
3: It overheated when playing DoW

There is just no way a game can actually destroy a GPU.

I play quite alot than you very much, atleast an hour per day I'd say
The card was fine when I booted, hence did Not burn during gameplay
and it has happened before with the same game.

I'm not saying it's destroyed, I'm saying it's dead

Well, to be honest the 6600 is a ancient graphics card nowadays and I'm surprised it even ran Soulstorm without issues, it seems it did show the issue and burnt out.

Its not really a issue related to dawn of war or soulstorm, just simple old hardware which could not run the game at the standard it requires.

There can be a number of issues which have caused the graphics card to fail:

Power supply unit shorting out causing a feedback burning out the card. If the PSU is over 4-5years old its best to be replaced. They become really degraded after 4years and if your PSU wasn't up to the level required for the 6600, then it will burn out the card.

Motherboard faulty/not compatible with the graphics card: this can cause the graphics card to burn out really quickly, you can't just plug any card in without checking the motherboard and the above I just mentioned.

The graphics card was faulty: Simple really, the graphics card could have simply failed on its own accord. They can do that and games which demand a fair bit from a graphics card will fail easier when run if there is a fault.

A game will only burn out a piece of hardware if your running it way above the standard config of your rig, it can be simple that a game was just to much for your system and it has caused the problem.

The motherboard and PSU checks should have been done after the first card blew and now that the second one has gone is quite potentially is one of those problems, you will have to consult with a computer technicial for further help as there is really nothing you can do about saving a burnt out graphics card.
