Error when starting soulstorm

i am getting this error when i start the game.

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application log for more detail.

Has anyone else run into this?

I ran into this when I installed Soulstorm, I also picked up a platinum edition and my WA key is too short. It has not been a good day for me. I am also looking for a fix for this.

and i already tried installing the game in safe mode, which didn't help any
hope it's not vista's problem
