View Full Version : An Offer...

First off, let me say that the stories that I have read have been incredibly creative and compelling. Marvelous works of fiction.

However...

If there is one thing that will interrupt the flow of the story, it is spelling and grammar errors. The stories on this board have, for the most part, very few errors. But there are a couple that are, for lack of a better term, shot through with errors. But even so, the stories themselves are extremely creative.

Here is my offer for you budding authors:

I love science fiction and I especially love the game Homeworld. If you want, you can e-mail me your stories in Word format (please save it in the Word '97 format, I'm a bit behind the times in business software) and I will read it and edit as I go. Admittedly, I make heavy use of spell check, but there are things that spell check won't catch either. I will e-mail back the original file, along with another one that is corrected.

Again, I'm not trying to slam anyone. I just want to put my skills to the best use and editting is one of them. I constantly proof other people's drafts (I work as an administrative assistant), so it's a skill I've picked up. I'll make sure my e-mail address is visible in my profile should anyone want take me up on this offer.

I will also offer my services as a proofreader, since I'm a manic (some have said pathological) proofer and have been known to sniff out a grammatical error from five pages away. E-mail me at my house (hanson5@velocity.net), since I'm unemployed. :)

Exellent idea, Superconductor.

Nicely put. You don't know how many stories I've just quit reading merely out of poor grammar and everpresent typos. That was one of ym main gripes with Kadeshi Crusade, in fact. I'd similarly offer my grammar skills, but I'm just too bogged down in work to be of any consistent help to anyone.

Ah, bitter, bitter, irony . . .
