W40k.exe runs, but nothing displays on screen

I've recently installed Dawn of War onto my Dell inspiron 1521 laptop (my gaming PC is at home... I'm at college). Its running Vista (sadly), so I'm having a time with it.

Every time I run the game, the CD kicks in, and the W40k.exe file runs in task manager, but the game never actually opens. I've Googled this quite a bit, but I'm just not finding anything.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm using an AMD Turion 64 processor, 2 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon x1270 graphics (integrated I believe).

Try installing the patches manually first. If that doesn't help, please post your dow.
