One of the things that I hated in the original HW was the ease with which it was to steal your opponant's ships with the salvette. HW-C made it much more difficult to steal a ship, and when I've done it (usually as a last resort tactic), my opponant is surprised as hell!

I haven't played HW since late last year, so I don't know if any patchwork changed this, but . . I like the idea of salvaging working ships to some degree.

Also, it seems like once a ship is destroyed in space, the thing should not just vaporize, but should create space junk that is recyclable. More for cap ships, and none for fighter class strike craft.

These items could be worth LOTS of RUs, because they are made of refined materials. Furthermore, the should be harder to catch than dust or asteroids - since they are drifting and in motion.

Maybe there should be a specialized corvette class ship dedicated to battlefield recycling - perhaps a "Recycle" upgrade to a salvette or a worker?

This is not unprecedented, I recall in the single player cata, that we had to use salvaging to get the siege cannon.

Perhaps we should all agree to buy 1.4 GB processors and 3rd gen. video cards before playing this game too so that we'll have equipment that will be able to deal with the graphics. :) :)

Been suggested before, I even posted about it. It's a great idea.

HWC salvaging sucked, but harvestable wreckage has already been suggested and I think it's a great idea.

I believe that HW capships leave behind a rather unimpressive but harvestable dust cloud when they are destroyed....someone correct me here.

Though Salvaging was limited in HW-C, it can be done.

Personally, I think that it was a little more realistic - Ships have to be below 50% health to be salvaged.

As a matter of fact, when salvaging is done in HW-C, it's usually so unexpected, that the opponant is very surprised! I've had people ask me how I did it when I've had the opportunity to salvage.

Awhile back, I had 15+ sentinals guarding some harvesting. My workers had repair and salvage. Three hivers were sent in, I set six workers to repair the sentinals, and the rest of the workers I used to try to salvage the Hivers. I got one of them through salvaging and that gave me time to send in missolytes to take care fo the other two ships! I lost a few of my workers, but not as many as if I'd not tried to salvage.

The other guy was MAD!

I've got to admit, salvaging is quite fun in HW. What a nice way to add to your fleet. Plus, if you couple it with a cloak generator frigate, well, you can have all kinds of fun on the battlefield.

This does bring up the question about salvaging in HW-C. I'm waiting for the local CompUSA to get Cataclysm back in stock, as I have yet to play that one and want to take a crack at it. Is it possible to salvage Beast ships or is that not a good idea bringing an infected ship to the mother ship for conversion?

Okay guys, correct me if'n I'm wrong.

I believe that the same rules apply with regards to damage.

Somtaaw salvaging Beast ships is possible. The workers must have been upgraded not only with salvage technology, but also Infection Vaccine.

Furthermore, you will only be able to salvage ships with a Somtaaw analog.

You can salvage Beast workers, Beast processors, and Somtaaw frigates that have been infected and are now beast ships.

You cannot salvage Ion Array Frigates, Defense Field Frigates, or Heavy Cruisers.

Also, to my knowledge, anything smaller than a frigate (corvettes and strike craft) cannot be salvaged.

I found salvaging in cataclysm more trouble than it's worth. You can't salvage any ships unless you have enough control modules for them; in the mission that required salvaging an imperial ship late in the game I was only able to complete it because one of my destroyers got wasted.

Late in the game, with the vaccine I suppose you can salvage but it's not really worth it unless you're resource-strapped. By that time, I usually have a hella-big fleet anyway and don't need any cruddy beast ships.
