A lot of people seem to be wondering how to extract music/audio from the game files and convert them to a playable filetype, so I made a tutorial covering exactly that.

Where to find the audio:
Open up Corsix's Mod Studio (http://www.corsix.org/cdms/) and create a new mod; The Mod Studio crashes when loading the default RelicCOH.module at the current patch (2.6). The default path for the .smf files is: Data/sound/wav/. In there are various subfolders with all the different sounds in the game. The ones most people would be interested in are speech and music. Once you find what you want, extract the files by right clicking -> Extract all files in this folder. This can take several minutes depending on how much you extract.

NOTE: the sound folder contains all the subfolders "wav" does, but all these files are .bcs. Bcs files are NOT audio files and cannot be played. These files just contain information on audio levels/filters the game applies to the audio referenced in the bcs file. At least that how I understand it being.

These files will be extracted to this directory (Starting from your main CoH Directory): "Modname"/Data/sound/wav/

What do I do with these .smf files?
I personally don't know of any programs that can play an .smf file (And I'm sure you don't either). We can convert them to .wav, something Window's Media Player can handel, by downloading and using Mannerheim's .smf to .wav Converter (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=109039).

How do I use Mannerheim's Program?
It's fairly straightforward. When you start the app you should see two input directories at the top, "Source folder" and "Target foldet" (Yes, it's misspelled).

Source Folder should follow the path to the .smf files, preferably to the "wav" folder you extracted. Target Folder is where the converted .wav files will be saved. Once those two are filled out you can click "Start" at the bottom righthand corner to begin the conversion process.

Afaik loading in reliccoh.module gives you problems, and not recommended.

i have finally been able to extract the sound files, all i had to do was extract them one at a time instead of extracting the whole file. however i have yet to be able to get them ingame. i have placed the smf. files where they originated from but i have no idea where the bsc. files go so i just stuck them in the same folder as the smf. files. when i start up a game (mod is loaded) the old voice files play. if anyone could shed some light on this topic it would be well appreciated.

EDIT: after looking into the problem again i have noticed that the wav files converted into bsc. files and MIDI files, there were no smf. files to begin with. i believe this is the problem does anyone know a solution to this?

thx in advance

Ah yes, there are some problems loading up the default module file, I'll have to edit that.

As for your extracting problems opo368 I don't know what exactly your doing to get the error (Never seen it myself) just make sure you keep the folder structures intact, I.E:
sound\(.bsc files under here)\wav\(.smf files here)

And to reiterate .bsc files are not sound files. I haven't really messed with the conversion from wav to .smf/bsc so you'll have to experiment with that on your own. Just make sure when you're referencing a sound file you point to the .bsc file and not the .smf one. I am just guessing here though, but go ahead and give that a try.

If someone does figure out how to get sounds to play though feel free to explain, I'll add it to the tutorial (Plus it would help me when making NIS stuff! ).

i randomly discovered that the MIDI file is actually a .smf file now to only figure out why coh isnt playing it :err:

EDIT: im still having troubles getting sound files to work ingame, i would appreciate it if someone could explain how the "speech codes" work in coh.

things that i would like to know include:
what is it exactly? (right now i just believe its a file that the voices of a unit are connected through)
how can i find what voice files it specifically connects too?
and how i can modify them.

i would be a great help if someone could explain how the speach codes work, and hopefully allow me to figure out the sound converter.
