I'm working on revamping Bentus i.e. Giving him weapons, dock paths, repair points, subsystem points...etc.

If you plan on heading up such a mod, I'll donated my Bentus hod file to the effort :)

I cant really mod much but can do some stuff (lua files,weap files)
just today was looking through the Bentus files and realised "no guns" so,um,yea all help greatly appreciated

Well, the ben_bentus.hod version I have right now has:

10 Wepon hardpoints
5 capture points
4 repair points (will prolly have more)
DOCK paths for ships (though the game is ignoring(?) them)
5 SubSystem Points.

I plan to re-texture it a bit after I figure out how to import textures into HOD files.

how about we bring acolytes in from cata, to round out the bentusi fleet in the figther area?

fighters=super acolytes
corvettes?
frigates?
capital=tradeships, MS is bentus

what other ships can we add (lets assume we are making a whole new playable race).

well, I had a drawing I made of a bentusi-like frigate. I mean, they must have had a prototype for the ion frigate that they sold to the kushan in HW1.

you will have to just make stuff up i guess... make appropriatly bentusi looking ships and put them into the game :)

big question: are you going to give the bentusi things that are roughly equivelent to things other races have, or are you going to take another route and make them actually different..

edit: to make bentus balance out with the other MS (make it tougher and have decent guns) you could make it hella slow and make it expensive to hyperspace..

edit2: i just thought of something better :p instead of giving bentusi platforms, allow them to construct weapon modules/upgrades on bentus and possibly on whatever carrier equivelent you give them... maye ref's aswell?? i dunno..

I like the idea of acolytes as their fighters. Perhaps since I've already got Bentus to where I want 'im and I'm working on the other stuff I should take the lead here.

So We Need:

Destroyer class designs:

Frigate Designs:

Corvette Designs:

We also need some creative storytelling to explain why the Bentusi are going all battle-esque :)

the cargo barge from HW1 was frigate class, i believe..

as far as destroyers... im afraid to imagine....

tho i fear anything from cata, i guess there isnt much of any other choice.. :-/

Why fear cata...besides, the acolyte could be replaced with any fighter chassis. But I need people to volunteer to design such chassis. :)

well, their general designs seem to be curved, and symmetic. weapons in the front only (from what was seen in cata) high-tech (mostly beam weapons) slow (the big ones anyways).

I know there are creative people out there who can do some concept stuff.

and if no one is brave enough to try. I just might :)

issues with bentusi: they are uber. all their stuff is uber.

its going to be hard to de-uberize them whilst still maintaining the bentusi feel... i checked up some stuff from cata lately ( i never played through it) apparently the bentusi gave alot of their tech to the somtaaw.. so we could base designs for bentusi stuff loosely on some of the somtaaw stuff.. all we have to go by with the bentusi themselves is the tradeship, bentus, the cargo thing and the advanced acolytes..

fighters: advanced acolyte.. i dont know what role this guy filled (intie or bomber) but we could just make a varient to fill the other role.. or make it very expensive but multirole..

corvettes: could make the acolytes join up like in cata.. or just invent something new.

frigs: probably here is where we will start to see the curved hull designs .. so they will have roughly the same shape as the tradeship or the dready from cata or bentus.. probably all beam weapons i dont recall if they used kinetic weapons at all..

desty/BC: im unsure.. maybe we dont even need to give them equivelents in this field.. but restrict them to smaller ships that are more powerful in their roles..

just an idea , but decrease there unit cap maybe? 1 uber battlecrusier. 8 corvs, 10 fighters, 3 destroyers, and so on. make there ships more expensive.

or second idea

Make there ships rely heavily on research. for example because there so advanced. they have to research individual weapon systems and each chasis for each hull and ship design. also make ships more expensive.

or a combination of both.

could be based in a prequel before the exile of the higarrans. where the bentusi were still uber. thereby negating any run ins with cataclysm or homeworld 1. :)

oh yeah, from the history it says bentus is a warship, which had many ships docked with it. So another way to balance things is turn bentus into a warship, but have it only capable of building the tradeships, these tradeships build your fleet, this means they will have less production lines, so they can't spam out uber ships fast or replace them as easily making it more worthwhile for peeps to keep there ships alive. but if u can have it able to have huge docking capacity,

Hmmmm..... for my opinion about bentusi docking space....

I think bentus should be able to hold almost (or all of) the fleet, and it should be re-scaled,
(remember the pic where bentus was about 100 times bigger than the trade ship)
and... the trade ships..... dunno..... few slots of dock space maybe?

And..... ummmm..... I think that they should be REeeeeeeeAlly specialized race.

Ummm in Homeworld 1, didnt that tradeship have the triple ion beam coming out the back of the ship, not the front? Also, IMO tradeships should be like an armed carrier, because they had docking space, so it shouldnt be a destroyer. I havent played Cata yet, so i dunno anything about the bentusi ships there

The trade ship had atleast in cata a triple yellow ion in its back....

Imagine the WEAPONRY OF BENTUS? if it would be the 100:1 scale like in concept art, and even without it the weaponry would be awesome (except when we balance the game)

The balance issue is handelable...

good examples are the protoss from Star Craft...

to make uber stuff balanced, you just havre to increase cost, reasearch and buildtime...etc...y'all can see what i mean when i release MY progenitor mod, which WILL be a balanced, Playable new race :noball:

On the smaller Bentusi ships, they would have ridiculous firepower (i.e. Super aco's) but to balance them give them really low armor. Flack frigs or equivalent would massacre the strike craft. The main problem I can see is that tradeships move at about 1000 m/s in HW1, so balancing that might be difficult. Possible solution would be to screw their manuverability, so a minor course change would take 30 secs. setting up, and then 5 secs. to get there.

If you watch how the tradeships fly, you will see that the triple ion beams are on the front. Also, I agree with Grey Fox, balancing is as easy as setting the cost of research and ships real high and have an increased buildtime.

actually if you look think about it, it could be quite easy to scale down the trade ship, notice on the skins/texutres of the ships in HW2 they try to make the ships appear a little more massive.. just shrink down the trade ship, and I agree on balance: its all relative, you can balance out bentusi by maniupulating building and research costs, and by adjusting ship and weapon values.

even better would be to just severly limit the amount of ship the bentusi can build, and give them really bad RU harvesting rate. That way, it would simulate what they really are like (having one small fleet and moves arond fast...)

Storyline wise, since karen S'jet/Sajuuk reopened the galactic system of hyperspace gates, why not have it so the Bentusi who fled the galaxy in Cata heard about Bentus's sacrifice to help the higgies come back and help the higgies defeat whats left of the Vagyr/Imperialist Taidanii threat. Bentus will not have been the only Bentusi Harborship, so they could send in another ship of the same class and a supporting fleet. Hope this can help a little, I can't wait to see what you guys can produce in terms of a mod(s). Keep up the good work. :salute:

Thanks Tyreal, well i suppose they could decide to rebuild it and more possibly. As well as being a mega warship it could also serve as a mobile base for several Tradeships and a major trading hub as the Bentusi seem to like nothing more than trading peacefully with the other races. :beer:

i would think that to facilitate the existance of the bentusi in the next galaxy, they would need to build another harbor ship, or you never know, there may be bentusi already in that galaxy, and maybe they have something even bigger than a bentus class

because chances are if they already had the gate to go to the other galaxy then they probably already sent some tradeships and a supporting ship like a bentus through the gate to establish themselves in the new galaxy as tradesmen and travelers

Well, I'm gonna model a new bentusi frigate and import it (That's right :) importing models is a reality now [still no textures though]) and I'll post some screenshots. I know what I want it to look like, but I'm a better moddler than pencil and paper artist :)

Well, I'd like to add the bentusi as a balanced playable race, and I think we've got some good ideas on how to now. The most important thing now is to hash out the specific ship and class designs we want, and model 'em :)

ow to fit the story in Cata the bentuse jumped out of the game via that wormhole or so.
When the Tradeships learn Bentus is destroyed, they start work on Bentus II.
DD = A smaller tradeship 1/3 downsize.
Fighters = Adv. Acc but with different weapons, the weapons we didnt see we can think of (uber bombers but only max build 4 ?)
Frigs = thats hard perhaps more like bentus but very small ?

It would seem to me that the Tusis would have the modules on the inside of the U shape of their vessels.Maybe something to do with EDD armour (Equal Damage Distribution)?

Also RE: the benus 2002 concept,Methinks the final was better(sleeker n all you know)

im assuming we are using Bentus as the mothership, and the tradeships as carriers
(btw Plot_device, it is easy to have as many playable races as you want...simply switch "notplayable" to "playable")

Ok pip, and i have rough drawings already done for the following
a bentusi beam corvette
a bentusi scout ship/probe
a bentusi frigate of some kind
and a capture frigate (which could also be a resourcer)

check IgnusDei's concept of a bentusi Battlecruiser :crazy:

just say that the tusi's that ran (AKA COWARDS) built another ahbour ship, but without a core to jump with it took them till the reopening of the gate system to get in touch.

also you could say that without the power of the core the bentus is now an imobile ship that can only hyper every 20 mins or so, but can breach hs inhib fields.

According to HWC the tradeships are Carrier class. It'd be cool if there were Bentusi destroyers and frigates. The Super Acolyte kicks ass. But IMO they'd way too powerfull.

If you play the first mission you meet the Bentusi Tradeship in HW1, you'll notice that "Mothership class signature" line.

I don't think you have to rationalize the Bentusi as to how they survived or not. You defeat the vagry in SP, but you can still play as them, with Makaan leading your fleet. Those fighters are an awesome start.

Actually, I want to make an SP mod for them too. Some sort of story about them comming back from wherever they've disappeared off to.

I think it would be cool if there was still a Keeper Mothership (or some equivalent) out there, and it's going on the rampage. Bentusi to the rescue!

not likly it seams that the keepers are more or less invunerable tho they are weak in the way that if one does as bentus in the SP campain..
remaind you they always jump out and get back with full HP.. they are using a tecnoligy surpassing Bentus maybe if they did not discard their weapons it would be toasted :)

and i realy hope you are going to make those fighter's better in polygons beceause atm they are not that interesting (tho promising start) ;)

I have a possible plot with the bentusi, that is if your not doing the prequel idea of before the exile.

But it could be that when the bentusi discared there weapons, a small group of them refused to do so, and so were exiled to the void inbetween galazies since there incapable of travelling any further. They kept there weapon systems. If you were doing the first mission of a bentusi SP story. It could be signal recieved from bentus when it was destroyed. The exiled bentusi recieve this message and return to where bentus is destroyed but find it littered with movers who are stealing the material to build keeper vessals. Then it mission 2 you rebuild bentus. mission 3 bentus is your mothership and u track down the keepers whos Ai has reactivated due to the hyperspace gates being reopened. even though they were exiled bentus still would have been the closest thing the bentusi would have had to a homeworld.

just an idea. I love those fighters :)

although i can't actually mod to save my life. if u do need someone to write script ideas for missions if u do a SP game or background history story i would'nt mind giving it a go.

MoonSilver: Love it! Sounds like a good start to the story.

As for the keepers being invulnerable, perhaps a new technology could be researched that would inhibit the keepers' phasing ability, thereby making them vulnerable.

Just some more thoughts. :)

The Exile of Bentusi's Anger - First Draft.

During the time of the first Core. A great war erupted in the galaxy,the bentusi unable to stop the younger races from waring waited out the battles that had long before been extinguished. Great empires arose from the war, the higarrans and taidani being the most powerful of all.The border disputes between the higarran and taidani empires led to the attack on the taidani homeworld by the higarran fleet using the second core.The galactic council and the higarran empire agreed to a deal, where the higarrans would hand over there core to bentus. Seeing that onlythe bentusi could stop them they laid an ambush for bentus. The ambush failed and the higarran fleet except for the core and the wrath of sajuuk were destroyed. The taidani taking advantage of the higarrans loss, attacked the empire and commited genocide untill an outcry called for the taidani
to stop. Some of the bentusi angered by the acts of the taidani wished to intervene and prevent the genocide from continued but were silenced by the majority voice of the bentusi. So what is known as the exile of the higarran people came to be. The bentusi afterwards feel into grief and despair over
there actions and blamed themselves for the atrocity that had befallen the higarran people. The bentusi who wished to prevent the atrocity became angered and self exiled themselves to the void inbetween the galaxies where they hoped to find equilibrium amongst themselves, one day return to bentus as one people.
The bentusi who remained discarded there weapons and gave them to the exiled vowing they would never use there might to force there will on others.


That if accepted should be the beggining part of the background history. The second part will talk about the return of the exiled bentusi.

Possible weapon designs of the bentusi for various class ships.

Focused ion beam-fighters/corvettes/anti strikecraft guns on caps

Ionic pulse generator - fighter/corvette bomber classes.

ionic torpedo - frigates/destroyers maybe others.
cluster ionic pulse mines. (cluster torpedo fires, releases many mines home in target.

The famous ion beam :) - frigates/tradeship/capships
Ionic pulse cannon - destroyers/bentus maybe frigs.

Phased ion beam - minium destroyers or battlecrusier.

the phased trinity focused ion cannon. - Bentus only if has having a big ass weapon :) Fires 3 ion beams into one spot creating a ball of ionic energy. 4th beam shoots this ball releaseing the energy at the target in a big ionic beam perhaps looks a bit like huge firewave.

just some ideas, i was going to give design list of possible bentusi ships and there weapons but since zefram posted those models, thought i'd wait and see what everyone else is up to.

Great work on the models, but the fighters with textures look a bit 2D to me, I mean they look kind of flat..

I also think the battle harbour looks too similar to the Battle Cruiser. Apart from that it looks really promising.

well, the battleharbour is the battlecruiser with the middle carved out of it. i wanted to see what it would look like without it and i liked it, it looked more bentusi like. of course, now i like it i need to add a few details to seperate its likeness from the battlecruiser.... and make textures from them all.

Two suggestions: thicker (or more vertical mass might be a better statement) ship structure and moving the fins/spikes to the other end of the ship, or reduce the width of the fins/spikes should give it a more bentsui look (somewhere it in the materials I have read it talked about the trade ships "spikes" that stick out the back of it as part of its drive/manuvering system).
Good start hope to see some more stuff soon, this mod sounds like a lot of fun.

This is probably way to nitpicky but something about those models kept bugging me. They look great but for some reason they didn't feel bentusi-ish to me and I finally figured out what it was ;).

The bentusi seem fond of the U shape but remember they always travel with the U backwards. In other words the bottom o the U is the front of the ship. Your battlecruiser seems to have the weapon facing backwards really and you have all sorts of extrusions coming out of what would be the front of the ship.

They all look cool but I thought I'd bring it up. It's not like all the bentusi ships have to be the same kind of U. Afterall it's not like any of the Hiigaran ships are bannnana shaped ;).

Im just showing a rear view because there isnt anything happening at the front really, to use the megaweapon on the battlecruiser the ship must turn around and face them with its rear.

if so count me in on that. as for actual modding i'm still learning. but i can conceptualise various alien designs for various class ships. and you guys can critique them so i can make the changes you think is better. :)

actually, zefram, i drew the battlecruiser so that the cannon opening would be at the front: turning around to fire the main weapon would be a pain in any traditional battle scenario.

yea i figured that... but thats when it was a somtaaw ship or whatever, when it was "converted" into a bentusi ship i figured it would need to turn around to fire.... this could also be used to an advantage. when the bentusi appear you expect trade or something (maybe not in the early days?) so it would be kind of a shock to see a great huge cannon lashed to the back fully loaded. and since when is space traditional for battle?

2nd part of background story is nearly done.

if pipkin gives the go ahead on the single player conversion. i'll starting writing mission level designs for the single player story.
the objectives, actor scripts maps stuff. some unfortunate person can mod them . :)

However, i somehow get the impression that the bentusi ships had "hollow" interiors, in the sence that they had u-shaped ships, but there was a lot of empty void between the "arms" ala bentus and the bentusi flagship.

Ammon Ra: If you're reffering to the fighters, I still gave them a curved appearance, but they don't run on the traditional bentusi drives. (Notice the engine trails) They work on reaction drives, and therefore don't have to conform to traditional Bentusi designs :)

The War of The Void

The exiled Bentusi began to gather together what resources and supplies they could so that they might survive in the dark of the void. As they travelled together they came upon a single, rouge star surrounded by a string of asteroid belts. This star "<insert bentusi type name here>" or "Homestar", became the base of operations for the newly exiled, and allowed them to continue there explorations.

However, dissention in the war-like exiles began. Over time, two dominating factions arose. The "<insert name here>" or "Childen of the Void" and the "<insert other name here>" or "Warriors of the Depths"

A great war erupted for possesion of the homestar, and many were destroyed in the process. Then one day, a mysterious signal alerted both factions to the destruction of Bentus himself. The bentusi gathered under their repective banners, and made preparations to return.


This would allow us to have two Bentusi factions for the campaign and allow two set of designs. Of course, we'll have to decide the names, and which faction will be our heros :)

Bentusi dont fight each other....

However in the "Void" they maybee encounterd a vaygr like race that was about to attack the bentusi.
But the bentusi left for the Destroyed bentus.
The other race thinking it was a retreat decides to follow....

This way you have a second race with no restrictions on ship design :)

EDIT: Bentusi orange/yellow (the lighting) is turned red for their anger of the destruction of Bentus.

They also think the hiig are responsible ?

Maybe they meet the race that Destroyed the Progenitors? I always imagined that the Progenitors were destroyed by some god-like race that was punishing them for how powerful they were.

These are the ones who were exiled because they would not give up their weapons. Just because the are technically advanced doesn't mean that they are beyond corruption. Leave a war-like, but enlightened race out in the cold of the void for a fer thousand (at least 5000) years, where they only have a tiny amount of resources to live on and share, dissention will appear.

Right and wrong don't enter into it. Just survival. Besides, I'd like to see that our Bentusi freinds have flaws, like greed, or anger.

EDIT: Well, I want these Bentusi to appear a LOT less overrational. They are passionate and reckless (by Bentusi standards), and don't always make good decisions. That's why they're stuck in the void in the first place.

i'm getting some remarkable results with the cad program on bentusi corvette.
i knew i could do 2d and 3d models with it. and i can animate them to.
once i wire frame the model out, i'll try my hand at the texturing with the cad software, so it will be viewed better.
it'll be a change from designing homes and buildings, lol, but its fun and thats what counts :)
but i have to remember that space ships are not made of brick and concrete lol.
ok do they have to be in .jpg or .bmp (right now they are .tcw)
in order for me to post them on here from the site?

Hmm, I could possibly do some of the .lua modding. I've only done a few things such as create my own weapon, add ships into the build menu, edit ships/weapons, etc... But I think I could help.

The only thing I'm wondering is how we will design the missions (unless one of us has Maya 3.0).

Also, about the Bentusi Destroyer - I've been working on it, and I suddenly got the idea... How about keeping the horse-shoe shape, but turning it vertically? I'm not sure if it'd look bentusi-ish, but it would be cool. :) What do you think? If not, I can easily scrap that idea.

Ok, first of all I want to get the weapon stats down... Here's some ideas.

Bentusi Destroyer(Anti-Capship)
1x - Heavy Semi-turreted <insert uber heavy cannon thingy name> (won't be able to fire at much of an angle, it won't be able to hit anything smaller than a Destroyer.)
4x - Medium Turreted Ion Cannons(Anti-Frigate)
2-4x(?) - Light Ion Pulse Cannons(Anti-Fighter/Corvette)

Bentusi Destroyer(Multi-Purpose)
2x - Heavy Turreted Ion Cannons(Has trouble hitting Frigates, great vs. Destroyers/BCs)
4x - Medium Turreted Ion Cannons(Anti-Frigate)
4x - Light Turreted Ion Pulse Cannons(Anti-Fighter/Corvette)

That's all I have right now - when we decide which we want to use, I'll draw up the weapon positions, and start on it's speed/armour and stuff. :)

EDIT: Hmm, those may be too good. Depending on what you want... Are the Bentusi going to be like Hiigarans(multi-purpose ships) or like the Vaygr(specialized ships)? If it's specialized, I should make the Anti-Capship Destroyer not have anti-fighter/corvette weaponry, and only 2 anti-frigate/capship Ion Cannons. Hmm...

Sorry been busy for a while pipakin had university work to do.

Well glad to see a website :)

i'll start emailing u the story pieces and stuff rather than posting so u can put it up on the website.

pipakin about your story. I kinda like the homstar idea. and if u don't mind i would like permission to edit your astory War of the void, to fit in with the others. It will still contain 2 waring bentusi factions. but the reason behind the 2 warring factions will be more bentusi like. Given that by this time it had been over 3000 years, the exiles had formed there own little empire around this homestar, "insert whatever name u like" :). Unlike the other bentusi this empire was not based on trade, and consisted mostly of the bentusi that wished to fight during the exile war. Also the cache of bentusi weapons from all the other bentusi that were taken with them, these were sealed in this homestar system. The argument started of with a group of bentusi, we know they all think as one people like everyoen has avoice but it is only voice that speak, there became a divide. the bentusi split into two factions, one faction wanting to reclaim bentusi as there home, from the bentusi that had culturly exiled them. the second faction that wanted to return to there origins and no longer be the unbound, inanother words settle in the homestar system, and become planet bound rather than roaming space. So a war broke out, This gives your war of the void a basis in the story and connects it to my story the return of the exiles. I will have to edit your story to add more stuff to it. Hope thats ok.

then it's they discover bentus has been destroyed. The war halts, this means the faction that is fighting to return to bentus, now has no reason to fight anymore, so the war becomes nulled. Both factions join forces, each with different designs, some based on planet based weapon systems, the other faction based one sole space faring weapons. say one uses ion pulse cannons, another uses ion beam cannons. thej planet bound people developed missle technology for planet defense adapted it to ships, built huge orbital defense satilettes, to protect the planets and built huge fighter squardrons. The other faction built tons of capships in order to bombard the planet based faction.

anyway with bentus destroyed, both factions join together head to the destroyed site of bentus. when they get there there problem effectively becomes solved, if they can rebuild bentus then they both sides can be happy and the war ends at home.
then they discover the pregentors eating the betnus ship blah blah write it later :)


so is it ok i do a rewrite of your war of the void story and email it to you pipkin? then i'll get straight away of writing out the objectives and stuff for mission 1-3 if there ok move onto 3-6 do 3 missions at a time.

Assuming pipakin gives the go ahead on the edit of his story.

might be a good idea that the betnusi that keep there tradeships build mostly capships big powerful guns and stuff.

the planet based bentusi that settle. They develop defense satilettes and fast carriers. concentrate on building strikecraft and frigates.

That way u can have 2 designs in one fleet. u can have the very bentusi like capships with big ion beams and stuff that all fit into one design. they maybe have 1 fighter class, 1 corvette. lots of cap ship designs.This has the tradeship as carrier, not fast can defend against cap ships but hopeless against strikecraft.

planet based bentusi. They don't use bentusi tradeships they designed there own smaller but faster carrier, that is good against strikecraft but not cap ships. they havelots of good strikecraft designs . but only 1 destroyer 1 frig design.

In the story the very very end of the story which is like 2 secs from the beginning of mission 1. Has 2 carriers set out to investigate the destruction of bentus. A tradeship representing one faction. The smaller but faster carrier representing the other faction. (both will be carrier class).

This gives the player 2 choices of carriers. but they work great together as a team, alone they have a weakness. but each carrier can only build there own factions ships. Bentus will probally be able to build both. there each have there own research module maybe. I'll have to talk to pipkin about that. but it would make the single player campaign more interesting and ad some diversity to the fleet. just an idea.

so your fleet is actually 2 fleets. To clarify it would be like playing higgy and vagyr at the same time, and u can build both types of ships but u get to choose how u want your fleet to turn out.

just an idea probally depend on what the ship designers and modellers want to do. I can always edit the story afterwards if it's a no.

The story that i'm writing has both sides working together in the sp. (find out when i post the story to pipakin)

okay, i've up-ed the hw1 flagship up to 2002 , more or less. most of that detail went into the "missile battery" that's on the rear side of the ship, and yes it's easily mistaken for reaction engines. :p

missiles are definately not a bentusi-ish weapon... however if it was possible to adapt a missile weapon or somehow create a bending laser weapon that would so rock.

sry...maybe not missiles but antimatter weaponry would be fine

like the plasma bombs or other pulse guns but with green glow and big damage.

and somekind of black hole weapons.....u shoot a dark (with some white pulses inside the ball) ball and at some distance it blows formind a black and white tornado or a vortex.....atracting the ships near to it crushing them.

and another weapons like a white torch (more or less like a flammer).

another weapon can be somekind of robot, the robot attaches to the ships slowing it (maybe the marine frigate can be good for the mission...the vaygr one).

I have mentioned ion torpedoes in the story now :)

So u could have like tagar says these big yellow blobs that home in on targets but leave a trail behind them, look really cool i think.

Thx to the story it is now plausible for bentusi to have missile design systems. because 2 factions of bentusi developed, i'll be emailed them to pipakin to put on the website so u can read it soon i hope.

To the design moddlers is it possible to design another carrier one of the factions is suppsed to have a fast cloakable carrier good against strike craft but not good against anything bigger. this gives the bentusi fleet 2 carriers to choose from heavy carrier the tradeship, light carrier the one i just described. design is completely up to u, just thought i'd mention it so that the story makes sense, when your able to read it, you'll be able to read the story you'll see what i mean.

The other reason is because, in mission 1 sp campaign u start of with a bentusi tradeship and the light carrier, each ship representing each faction of bentusi.

all of this is still awaiting pipakins approval though. i'd be really grateful, besides might be cool to have more than 1 carrier to choose from :)

pipakin: i'll be emailing those stories to u in about 2 and half hours when i get back from work. The background story is finished and i'm going to start writing the single player campaign scripts.

to sebas, the exiled bentusi idea is mine, and has nothing to do with cataclysm, if u go back in the pages and read the story the exile of bentusis anger u will see that it happend 4000 years before cataclysm even took place, i did this to avoid any story clashes.

the war of the void story is pipakins idea, though i think i will be rewriting it :)

re:"black hole" that would require linking the push weapon effect to a sphereburst, and as far as i've seen, and tested it's not possible :( unless relic *hint* :anime: *hint* could tell us or show us a way to create the wanted effect...

Also in RE to the "missile batery" and that bentusi have to missile weaponry; we only see one sort of weaponry, being ion cannons :p THe idea behind putting those studs there was to be an anti fighter/vette/ actually an anti everything weapon system.

the missiles are shot out the rear at high speeds so they clear the "antenae" which would be a high lunch speed and a high launchtime. then they curve and trac the enemy, the effect would be very impressive when the enemy is at the fron of the ship, and suddenly dozens of small (but powerfull) missiles arc away from the rear of the ship, and annihilate the enemy in seconds.

THis does sound like A "terrestrial" bentusi weapon system so i dont kow if it fits with this ship design. unless i can change it enough so that it's distinguisable from the other type. :thumb:

Only thing. I would like there to be some animostiy between the two factions, so we can have them fighting a bit in the SP campaing. After 3000 years of war, they wouldn't just hop back in bed together, even if the war was pointless.

By the time the war ends, both sides would have forgotten what started it. :) I don't mind the changes, but I want them to still dislike each other, and not trust each other. That way we have some possible twists for the SP campaign.

Oh, and since the player's fleet will consist of a "Combined arms" fleet, it would suffer from animosity from both extremes of the Bentusi culture. The planetbound, and the unbound alike would hate them. so I think we could work in an attack from one side or the other, or something, to make the story more interesting than just "Hunt down the keepers, kill them"

i found some thing every one might be interested in but i have to verify with the moderators of this site and others if what i found is legal or not.
i found a document i think explains in detail how to convert into maya 3 format :)
i know i have been doing other things than the mods :(
but a friend told me about the conversion document so i had to go check it out, as i knew alot of ppl would love it if it taught ppl how to do it and if it worked.
but i have to verify if its legal or not first.

i haven't been seen the thread in a while, so i hope this wasn't posted before. I think the vertical ship is awesome, BUT i think it would make a way better BC than destroyer. I think having it be the size of a BC but vertical would be awesome. I think of it this way, the BC is supposed to be the badass on the block. Since this ship sticks out so much because of its verticallity, I think it makes sense to make it the BC. Its like a radical design for their most powerful weapon. Plus, having this massive cresent hyper-in would be awesome. Its a tought decision, because i think the orignal BC design was awesome, but after seeing the crecent, I think it might be a more effect design, perhaps make the old BC design a carrier? frigate? I definetly don't think it should be scrapped. So far though, i think everthing looks great.

I was thinking, (I know I was told not to by my teacher) but I don't think two carriers could rebuild/populate Bentus by their own. And not ALL the Bentusi left the galaxy, so maybe when the two carriers reach the galaxy they would call out to their lost brethren or something. hmmmmmmmmmmm?

I dunno about babylon 5, but I think if you took off the little pointed tent thingy that ship would very much resemble Vasuden design. The Vasuden are a race from Freespace for anyone who doesnt know that, I think not to insult pipakin that it needs to be brought more inline with maybe either the trade ship design or super acolyte desgin to look bentusish, I am not trying to be insulting in any way this is just my own constructive, suggestive critism, since I cant model at all I in aw of anyone who can. So I dont know if its supposed to represent a splinter bentusi faction with a different look, but I just dont think it quite goes with current bentusi designs, Its too sharp i think.

well, don't forget in HW1 when the Taidan attack the Bentusi, they send out "cargo ships" to evacuate. They look something like Higaran 'vettes, so they don't always use the U design.

it is possible to rebuild bentus with only 2 carriers, since they are not starting from scratch it will be a reconstruction were talking these are advanced bentusi, with more powerful construction technology. i assure anyone there no loop holes in the story. If we ever get the single player campaign finished it will all make sense. i just don't want to put out any story spoilers.

(dark age 1 at least i didnt tested the other 2 as most if not all the mods in hw1 were not finished properly).

and another way to build more bentusi ships for example the Z systems used by nazis in 2WW (and USA too remember the Z of the mustang as night interceptor in 2ww and Corea), linking 2 hulls of superacolytes changing the wings to a X design.

or maybe using the hull of a superacolyte with one part behind it and then a half moon as the typical bentusi design for a super ion frigate ( 0=) ) or a reversed one ( ==0) ).

i added a 3d viewer for my battleharbour ship. i do appologise for the scratty appearance that the smoothing gives it but thats just something milkshape did to the model as it doesnt have assigned textures (and therefore smoothing) right click to turn smoothing off for a better view of the inside.

Ok, no bickering about the story. It's posted on the website. That is the OFFICIAL VERSION for this mod...wanna write a different one? be my guest and start your own mod.

Period.

I'll work on the fighter...which btw already HAS TOO MANY POLYS...all strike craft need to be <500 polys (<800 with goblins) frigates can have up to 1500 (2500 with goblins), and destroyer and up we'll decide on a ship by ship basis.

Peroid.

(The Striker fighter currently sits at 598 polys...to many.)

So, I'll post a poll for the team members to vote on the names for things, and I'll take SUGGESTIONS for ship types/weapon types.

Moonsilver is the OFFICIAL story guy...want something in the plot? Talk to him.

I'm giving final approval on ship designs to FreeZy. He has shown that he can design balanced weapon and size layouts for ships.

So, If you all want to bicker, bicker about ship designs that HAVEN'T been finalized, ie:

I have something to ask the people who are the modders for this project.

Is it possible to create a background for a map, that shows a solar system of planets that are interconnected as one infrastructure??? essientally the bound bentusi homesystem in the story?



Also there are some special things that might be needed to be moddeled for the single player missions. like a bentusi space station for instance. Since we haven't started on the campaign yet i'm just asking if this stuff is possible?

also is it possible to create your own cutscenes? be great for the story :) i have this great idea for the opening introduction. perhaps i should cast voice actors :) joking about the voice actors:)

also about the re-modeled bentusi harbourship that i'm currently redoing, is it ok in the last images or does it need some fine tuning here and there? (if its god enough ;))

ok frist corvette class is done, i want to do a final touch up ( what i really need is to leave it alone and send it lol :) )
i have three more on the table to draft.
also for buda, i went ahead and began the draft for the alcolyte/cresent moon frigate, as of right now i have three variations of the hull and am toying with them for hopefully the best shape. we want it sleek, but also to stand out as to say
" mess with me and you die" :). so if you have any suggestions on it buda, please feel free to share your thoughts with me.
i have to go, will be gone this week end , but i will send you (pipakin via email) what is completed first thing monday.
remember ppl this is my first for modding ships, so any and all constructive critisism is very welcome :)
as this project is not just for us but for you guys.

glad to hear that moon , lately a space station idea has been floating around my head and i can't shake it out of my head.
what i envision for it is one big megalith, with docking bays / ports, for even the big super cap ships, also subsystems to build and repair those ships, my idea is comming from battle star galictica, the cylon base star in that show. but only non moving. what do you think?

Well if u think u can model the cylon space statoin and make it look more bentusi like sounds great. though i think the ships for the bentusi fleet should be priority till pip figures out how to mod the campaign but it sounds good to me.

Also a giant hyperspace gate and a pregintor nexus station, vagyr station model and higgy models already in game so don't need modelling.

do u have any ideas for hypergate designs? really big hypergates, balcora size.
reason i wanted the space stations was because i wanted to make them part of a mission objective.
we really didn't see many stations in homeworld2.

i have to get back to writing these scripts.

to pip : how many missions did u want in this campaign?

You know, if you're still in need of any more poeple to work on this, I'd love to help you out. Unfortunately, my modelling skills are slim, but once I get my copy of Maya (soon! huzzah!) I should be able to pick it up pretty quickly. As for designing, I'm pretty skilled in that. I have a few old drawings of some Turanic Raider ships I had been wanting to put in a TR (trying to bring back the old-schoolers) vs. Bentusi kind of mod, but that never really got off the ground. You guys seem to be pretty organized though, and I'd love to have some creative input if, as I said, you could use another team member.

Ok....

I'm alive....barely... I got in a serious car accident this weekend which should explain my lack of posting.

I got cpubuild.lua translated for anyone who wants it, but it still needs testing. I'll post it tommorow when I'm back home. Ok, I like the Bomber! Very nice....and don't worry about the striker, I'm removing the tent and cleaning up some of the edges, it looks much better now. (You'd be surprised how much you can get done when you're stuck in bed.

The ship looks neat Cs_Saj, but the poly's need reduction...Good concept though.


WeeGee: We'd love to have you. The more designs/ideas we have, the more chance we'll stuble on something great ;)

Cs_Saj: Go to Milkshape3D's website. The viewer loads MS3D formatted models and displays them. The instructions are on the MS3D site. (Zefram is using the same thing).

Ammon Ra: Send the Bomber my way if you're done with 'er, or keep up the good work, and send it when you are done :)

Everyone: I should be good as new in a couple of days and able to post more. I'm still working on HODEd, but it's a bit tougher to code when you're drugged up on muscle relaxants :)

i use 3d studio max to, what you need to do is save your model as .3ds and then import it into milkshape 3d trial then save it as a ms3d file and load it into the viewer and convert it to a compressed ms3d file (mrz or something) download the trial version from the milkshape website.

All I can add is some story ideas:
If you read the 6 Dune novels you would kow about the Bene Gesserit sisterhood abd the honored matres. Basically part of humanity spread across space and some of it returned back and there were many changes. Evidently the Bene Gesserit changed into the Honored Matres or something changing many of their traditions and abilities. This could be used to close the plot hole of the Bentusi being non-militant and all.
If you haven't read the novels then you probably don't understand what the hell I'm talking about. I hope others can explain it better than me... ;)

I think that ship could be awesome. I mean, think of this. It has only one weapon, a massive beam that comes out from the center. A massively powerful beam maybe something close to the dreadnaughts cannon. I think it could rule.

I could use some help on opinions of what the bentusi would sound like when they are speaking for the dialogue.

So if anyone has any opinions on how the bound bentusi will sound or the unbound bentusi will sound. sort of things they would say, guessing the unbound bentusi would'nt sound right if i gave them a sense of humour :)

only one dreadnought cannon?!?! remeber that bentus was able to FIX the cannon, so thay must have known how create, and recreate the technology, not to mention improving on it. ANd if the bentusi factions that were exiled, and then returned are really more advanced then their weapns should be even more powerfull. ;)

well, i was thinking of play balance. If it had a dreadnaught like cannon, it would still be insanely powerful. I think anymore than that, and as a playable race it might be too much. I dunno how the balance discussion has really gone. It would have to be extremely expensive and slow to build. plus, design wise, I think one beam from the center is more dramatic than several. It gives the impression that the entire device is built to do nothing more than power this beam. You could even include an animation like sajuuk and the dread where the energy runs along the length of the ship, then it fires.

edit: duh, forgot this. I think if it was a beam that came out the center, it should also be forward firing only. Another play balance. Maybe if it only fired forward, and took a while to charge, it could be more powerful than a dread cannon. But, bentusi ships also seem to be quite manueverable, so this might not be a real disadvantage, so it could be too much still.

i was thinking something like it shall be manueverable and it shall take some time to charge. and i want it too have invurneable armor at the front so enemys most attack from behind or something

firing the main weapon drains the ship from all its energy..
after fireing it needs (perhaps 5secs) to recharge minimal power suplies so int can move again, and begin recharging the main weapon 30 sec ?

well, invulnerable armour can be done. but i think what you mean is an insanly high armour value, but the side and rear aweapon multipliers are larger tan 2 or something.

Remember - pip said we'll balance ships after they get done. That ship is really cool... But not very bentusi-ish. It's completely different than the normal bentusi, and AFAIK, the other bentusi won't have any uber-strong ships... Except maybe 1 or 2. I'm not sure, I may use it. :)

my bentusi assault ship is nearing completion, all i need to do is add textures to the inner parts... where it glows. ill upload some screenshots when im on my computer.
