Hello all, I just have a quick question that I hope you can help me with: A wile back, before the new edition was out, there were all sorts of rumors flying around, but one in particular grabbed my attention. It was said that GW might produce new Imperial Guard plastic models, something like Steel Legion or Death Korps of Kreig. I ran a quick search through the forums but couldn't find anything to follow up on this, so I was wondering if anyone had heard anything new about this rumor, is it true, is it false, is it somewhere in between?
Note to any Mods: I felt that this was more a general topic then anything specific like modeling and painting, if i was wrong I'm sorry to trouble you.

Im pretty sure it was in general, under a title like '5th edition rumour roundup' or something like it.
Will try and find it.
Anyways, I believe the rumour was that GW may produce 'Greatcoat' guardsmen, which will lend itself to Valhallans, Death Korp and Steel Legion.
Think there may have been something about variant heads included in there...

OK, that's good to hear. but I'm wondering if anyone might have any info on its validity. naturally i don't expect a lot, but it would be great to hear if its been confirmed. and i will try and find that post as well, see if there is anything i may have missed there.

Its still only a rumour, and so far there has been nothing revealed as to its validity.
However if they do make a plastic set i'd be very interested.

ok, I guess I will just keep having to hope for the best. Any word on when a new Codex for Guard might be out?

"Early Q1 2009" per BoLS. Unofficial confirmations of this release date window have come from some of the GW designers at various events this year.

mmm, well that sounds promising. I guess I will just have to work on finishing up my Space Marines until then. Thanks a bunch guys.

If they do make new guardsman infantry I hope that the keep the cadian models because alot, if not most imperial guard armies contain cadian models these days.

If they did start a new line of plastic Guard minis I don't think they would just abandon the Cadians right away. If in a few years it turned out that the Cadians just were not selling anymore then they might relegate them to the "collectors" section and jack the price up $5 per box. But I don't think they would do that right away.

cadians will be like catachans, theyl still sell em mainstream, but the quality of the 'greatcoat' guardsman might make the cadians less popular.

well what iv heard is GW will be creating plastic kits of all of there metal range, because of the price increase of metal models

They actually sent out an email or something about that (if you're on their newsletter list thing) I don't remember exactly what it said, but the idea was that they were going to expand a lot more into plastics for just that reason, but it did not say that they would being doing a 100% switch. all the models that are still metal will just be going up in price.

yeah, i really can't see them doing single piece metals as plastic, it just insn't worth it. the number of sales wouldn't justify the expenditure of the switch.
